A thousand miles apart

The difference between physical and mental distance is enormous

A thousand miles apart

Tomorrow I will watch London
A play city mapped below
Like a patchwork quilt
Whilst I am engulfed
In soft white clouds
And the soft hum
Of the engine.

Tomorrow the stresses and strains
With the loves and the losses
Will fade beneath me
Growing faint and hushed
Into hazy grey
As I turn to
A land of sun.

Tomorrow I will fly alone
With no bright star by my side
To catch me falling
Or reflect our light
Thousands of miles
A gaping ocean
Stretched between us.

Tomorrow I land on new earth
Lavish smells and jewelled sites
Wide-eyed at marvels
Swirling in colours.
Distant yet close
Holding you near
Learning with you.
