Add a link and give your reader more of what you have written

Linking your work helps you gain more traffic and then sharing the love with other writers, also helps you and in return, as they may give you the same curtesy.

Link or not to link
I know it can be confusing at times adding links to your articles. I was also confused at first. That is until I finally got it right with the help from Mark Gordon Brown. I hope this article is able to shed some light on this feature.
The first thing you do is highlight what word you are wanting to use as a link. As I did with the word 'articles'. So as to also give my reader the option to see another of my 'How to' on-line articles.
To highlight the word/words, left click on your mouse, start at the last letter and drag across the word/words with your mouse, holding down your left button on your mouse.
When you get to the start of the word/words, let go of the mouse button and the word/words should appear with a black backround. Go to the link button and click on 'link'.
Honesty is the best policy
Make sure your word relates to the subject you would like your reader to visit. My link goes to my article on how to write a on-line article and not how to make a cake.
Be honest to your reader and always steer them in the right direction.
After you click on 'link', a new page will pop up. You have three options. I usually choose my links, so as I might get more hits. I click on 'my wikinut pages'. My pages will pop up.
If it fits, it's it
I choose the appropriate link to the word I just used and click on that page.
When you hit 'My wikinut pages'. All your pages will come up.
Not just the 25 pages they show on your profile.
This could bring people back to older pages and maybe give you a few more hits that day.
Go bold or go home
After you have decided on the link you want to add and you have clicked on your article, that window will close. You then click on the 'bold' button at the top of the section you're writing..
Do not be alarmed, as this process will add more letters to your article. The extra letters will not be on your final page.
This just shows the moderator that you added a link. Any other reason why, I have no clue, nor do I care honestly.
Make friends
When I add someone elses link to my pages, I usually try to use wikinut pages. Like with Mark Gordon Brown's article, Adopt a Pet Save a Life, or Two.
I will not highlight Mark's name, as the reader will think that it just goes to his profile. I was informed by Jerry Walch about this, with the first article I had linked with James R. Coffey's article. To see how it looks, please go look at my article and James R. Coffey's link is at the bottom. Giving him the credit he deserves.
Speaking of pets, please go look at Jerry Walch's series, this is a remarkable series of all you will ever need to know about Feline Diabetes. It is geared towards cats but, it is sound advice for dogs also. I should know, I had a insulin dependent diabetic dog, Max.
It's a drag
I go to the page I want to use of Mark's.
On the far upper right it will show 'Short URL' http//, some numbers, letters and it will end with a '/'.
To copy the link, start at the end of the link, where the '/' is located. Holding the left button on the mouse down the whole time.
Drag the cursor across the link. Stop after the 'h' in http.
Highlight
When the link is highlighted, right click on your mouse, a box will pop up. Left click on the copy option.
Make sure you have the whole link highlighted.
Now you can go back to your page you're working on and add Mark's link to your page.
When adding the link please Use Mark's full name and use the title of his article.
Like I did below.
Add your friend
After you have typed Mark's full name, the title and highlighted the title, as you would any of your links.
Click on link. A box will pop up. Click on the box 'internet URL'.
The link already has the http//, so erase the one already in the box.
Add your link from Mark's article by right clicking in the box to the left of 'check link'. I find it easier to just copy the whole short url, instead of trying to stop right at the http//. .
Pop goes the box
A box will pop up. Click on paste.
You can click on, check link and it will tell you if it is good.
If it isn't, then erase the link and try again. Once it states it is a good link. Left click on 'Use this link'.
Then, do just as you would if you just inserted a link from one of your pages and click on bold after the box disappears.
We should all eat cake
There are different ways to link your pages. These are the ways I usually add mine.
One is by adding links throughout your article, by using the appropriate words. Like I did with cake.
Cake has nothing to do with the subject I am now writing about but, I do have a great cake recipe and I am still being honest, as I am sending my reader to a cake recipe.
Another way to add links is, by adding links at the end of your article that is a part of a series, as I did with my series. My path followed...Leads me to writing on wikinut.
Shameless Bugg plug, we admit.
I am hoping in the next few weeks, I will be able to do the same with It's a Bugg world series and in the series, In Bugg's world.
You will know when you have acheived putting a link in your article, when you preview your page and the places you wanted to add a link, is now in blue print and not black print.

Great write Denise, you are always interesting! I already know how to do this but I have another question you or someone else may be able to answer.
Is there a way to go back and edit to add links or make changes that will not throw our article back into the review que? I find this frustrating.

Hey Elaine, as far as I know it always has to go back through the review process. I know of no other way. Your page is still listed so other will still be able to access it, until the links or what have you have been done. Then they replace your article. I hear ya but, you must go through this step....I wish I knew another way also. Thank you for stopping by.:)

TB, add them to all the articles you can. This gives your reader more of a chance to go back to your other pages. If a article does not fit the subject you are writing about, you can add them at the bottom. Just put something like... For more stories by TBruff13, insert the title and then use the title as the link. Do not overload the reader, as you want the reader to stay on the first page and then maybe hit another of your stories. My best advice for new comers is, go look at the star pages, just hit that category and keep reading & LOOKING. See how they do it, that's how I learned. Good luck and thank you for stopping by.:)

T, it will get easier as time goes by. Just get in there and play around with the features. That is what I did and also, ask questions from those that have been writing for a few.
