Autumn Finale

Some people fight the enevatibility of the passing Seasons especially Autumn to Winter.I feel trees do the same.

Autumn Finale

Statue like

Finale Autumn Under the deep plum sky we strode
Past solitary black naked trees
Darkly silhouetted upon the viewed horizon
Walkers we two, cold as the mortuary slab
Beneath branches as bare as the silent torso.

The trees content at last to slip into the sleep of Winter
Not with shy demise did they answer the call to statue
For they on mass exploded in wine blush furore
Autumn was their battle cry an exuberant finale
Their moment to shine in red and gold perfection
A display to match any seasonal bonfire
So fierce and intense their climax
The distracted eye was captured in delight.

Below they had once littered our path with encased offering
Chestnut and conker brown, beechnut too
Hiding in the moist grass underfoot
A squirrel rich confetti
My feet crunched leaf deposits in glorious instrument
Piled in fallen heap until dog walkers intervention
Sodden and now abandoned to the four winds
The leaves lie dormant, soggy, listless
The theatre empty the orchestra pit once more silent.

The trees feign death until Spring
Till in subtle pink-white blossom and sticky bud
They arise from induced slumber
Refreshed and vibrant for the coming season
Had they voices they would rejoice in cheer
For they awake from accursed sloth
Once more to rejoin Mother Natures rich life circle.
