A poem on miseries of a child laborer and a plea to abolish this social evil.
Child Labour
Greedy eyes followed the young boy getting ready for school,
Admiring his smart clothes and polished shoes which made him look cool.
It watched yearningly the mother’s love and care,
Brooding and cursing God that he was never ever fair.
The eyes belonged to a small skinny boy about the same age,
Born in a poor family, destined to a life of misery and bondage.
He worked as a helper in the house slogging day and night,
Cleaning utensils and washing clothes with not a reprieve in sight.
He tearfully remembered his early years, so peaceful and gay,
Never once imagining that fate would soon make him a child laborer for pay
But when he was seven he understood that life could be unforgiving,
As he was bundled out of the village with the other small ones, to earn a living.
He had thought his parents loved him before realizing it was part of a bigger plan,
Just grooming and nurturing him so that he would work like others in his clan.
He had never gone to school or learnt how to read a book,
He was forced only to work and learn how to cook.
His miseries were endless and promising to go on,
Making him wonder why was he was ever born?
This is not a story of a solitary young child,
But that of millions of others who have rarely ever smiled.
We can find them everywhere in the markets in our homes or hotels,
Or even as bellboys and cleaners in dirty little motels.
Should all this continue and isn’t there anything we can do???
Before these children lose their childhood and later sit and rue.
By taking a pledge we can contribute in a small way we can,
That we would never hire a child to wash our clothes or clean our pans.
It might be just a small beginning ,but one to a great cause,
As lack of education to children through labor is a nation’s greatest loss.
So my friends , please begin today before it is too late,
To help these children escape their treacherous hellish fate.

Very sad, very sad. I think educating women on birth control will help too, as women have more kids than they can afford they often sell them off.
