Expressing the strength and metaphysical nature of the twin bond.

Conjoined

We were not you or I

until in rending agonies

our split apart souls found separate flesh,

infinite awareness gave way to mortal memory,

I forgot part myself.

But living in the liquid depths of your eyes

is the other half of me

and I half-recall the embryonic oneness an eternity ago

when we were the same soul.

Now

we breathe as far apart as miles and a heartbeat

as your blood courses my veins

and you think my thoughts,

and sometimes, smothered in the weight of darkness,

the tears I feel are yours.

Beyond love, past kinship,

what I feel for you is self.

Not affection - recognition makes me tell you that I need you,

umbilically tethered as we live our mirrored lives

until our severed souls join seamlessly again.
