How in my days as a youngster it was mainly cricket, now today the boys tend to prefer the shorted games.
Growing up as youngsters, we were raised on one game called cricket
This was so available that is seem to be a part of the diet
Every place, be it the roadways, the pasture or the beach
This game was played, and almost every youngster was reached.
WIth bats carved very artistically, for the branches of trees
Sometimes we used anything, flat enough to please
Wickets were sometimes bottles, sticks or a tin can the emit
A very loud sound, so you know what happens when it get hit.
For balls something solid was carefully wrapped in some cloth
Then with some cord a very fine pattern, was knitted on the suface
This was done in such a manner to keep it solid and so firmly in place
And when released, it would come down at a fairly rapid pace.
As a boy we used to play many long hours at this game
In the broiling sun, our energies seem not to wane
And felt better, when the bat hit the ball so sweet
As there was no pads, so it was important to defend ones feet.
Who could forget those days of such keen and spirted competition
When the villages competed, this was a very big attraction
It was such a spectacle, as almost the whole village was seen
Watching the game being playing on the village green.
There was that feeling of warmth despite the rivalry
As the competing supporters taunt each other jovially
Then when the game was decided and was over
There was much laughter, and the aroma of the food made the mouth water.
This game as i watched show the use of unity
Because they needed that synergy to function sucessfully
As each man had to depend on and support the other
This team work is required to cause the opponents some bother.
Today however with the advent of all the relevent means of communication
Cricket now seem to be attracting very little or no attention
As some youngsters will say, why spend such long hours toiling in the sun
When they have access to game, which are shorter and are played in cooler conditions.
