If you are looking for love, here are some tips on how to find it, recognize it, embrace it and keep it.

What Love is:

What Love is: There are so many ways to define love. Love is a very powerful emotion and it can’t be forced upon someone and there are no magical formulas for it. Love is very complex, it is a mixture of kindness, joy, commitment, infatuation, lust and frustration all fused together.

It’s the sparkle of stars on a clear summer night, the heat that drives the leaping flame, and the inherent instability that creates a nuclear reaction. It’s a mysterious emotion that ties two individuals together. A whirlwind of passion that make our hormones go haywire.

People will move mountains, make sacrifices and make time for those they truly love.

But, you shouldn’t base love simply upon feelings, true love is much more. True love had depth.

What Love is Not:

Love is not cruel and it is not selfish. Love isn't an adjunct, an appendix, something that can be annexed, attached, or latched onto.

Love is not about latching onto someone for money, survival, or assistance. Love is not about the feeling of security derived from being loved by someone else nor the fulfillment of the desire to be wanted. Love isn't sex, or the rush of euphoria,

The varying levels of love:

Love may start out as giddy. You'll find yourself looking forward to spending time with that special someone because they make you feel like you are on top of the world.

You'll find yourself intrigued with even the littlest of things, like the way they pronounce their words or the way they flip their hair back when they talk.

You'll anxiously await their next phone call and yet find yourself becoming tongue tied or silent in awe. You might trip over your own two feet, but that is what love can do to you.

And, when the hormones become involved, look out world, one moment the love of your life can do no wrong and the next moment you can’t stand the sight of them.

Confused one moment and confident the next. But, if you can keep moving through all these levels you’ll find a deeper more meaningful love.

There will be times when you won’t understand one another and may not even have the same dreams, but those relationships meant to last, are those that find a healthy way to merge those dreams together.

Sadly, at some point we can even find ourselves taking love for granted. It’s even possible to become bored in a relationship, discontent and cantankerous. But, it is at those times when the rubber meets the road that those who are really in love for all the right reasons make a conscious decision. They find and make ways to reignite the flames, to forgive, to move forward and to find time to date once again.

Where to find love:

So, where does one find their true love. Everyone has their theories. Some say, when you least expect it, is when it will arrive. Others say you’ve got to track it down and hunt for it.

But, the fact is, it can be found anywhere. It could be your best friend, your neighbor, that cutie that you bumped into at the mall or the person you met on line.

The truth is there is no magical place; love can be found in the most obvious place, as well as, in the most unusual of places.

What to do when you find it:

Some have missed out on love and have lost their soul mate because they failed to recognize the signs until it was too late. Another reason that people have missed out on love is because they flew the relationship too soon, not realizing what they had, don’t let that happen to you.

Learn to tap into your heart
and to look for the telltale signs that you’ve found your soul mate.

Be open to love, and take it slow, allow love to mature. Love is an amazing emotion, and as it develops it has the potential to become a strong bond. Take time to appreciate one another and to value each other. Those who stand the test of times are those who make their mate feel good about who they are. Be someone your soul mate can trust, someone they can depend on.

You’ll know you’ve found your soul mate when you find someone who makes you feel good about yourself, someone who challenges you, makes you laugh and is there when you need them. There are no special formulas, but you’ll know it’s your soul mate when you find the one who inspires you to go after your dreams.

The most important tip - Live your life, follow your dreams and let love find you.

A real treatise on love, Teila, that should be taught at high school! Unless one is willing to invest time - modern lifestyles are no excuse not to do that - love will fall apart. One has to do more than enough to challenge the partner. Most fall in love for the wrong reasons and soon pay the price. The adoration turns to revulsion, sadly. For me, give and take - not one giving and the other taking - but mutual to the core. I have seen where both play their parts - in Asia, the women more-so! siva

Thank you for this Teila! You are so insightful and what an intriguing subject! I wish I would have understood more about love when I was younger! Sometimes when hubby's habits get on my nerves I have to beg the Lord to help me love him or just plain ignore his little temper tantrums when he gets mad at inanimate objects! LOL Without the Lord I could not stay in love!! However with the Lord I can gain insight into the way my beloved's mind works and love him in-spite of it all. That could be an idea for an article!! LOL

The Yiddish word used to characterize the person one is destined to be with is "B'shert." This is a general term for 'fate' most often used this way... Just got me thinking. Nicely done article!

Nice Article. And a very nice way of defining love. I believe Love is so abstract and complex, it is impossible to define yet its emotions are the most simple ones U'll ever experience. Great Article..
