Hats and Bonnets - a Kentucky Derby Tradition
A long-standing tradition of the Kentucky Derby Day is hats! Hats and bonnetts abound on every well-groomed lady who attends this race.
Hats and Bonnetts
A long-standing, wonderful tradition of the Kentucky Derby is the wearing of hats and bonnets by well-groomed ladies to the race. There are hats of every size, shape and color which may, or may not, match the outfit being worn by the lady under the bonnet. Sometimes it seems as though the larger the hat, the better. There are hats with ribbons, hats with bows, hats with streamers, straw hats, hats with large, or very large, brims. It is so much fun to watch the pre-race interviews and activities and seeing what everyone is wearing. A kinda red-carpet of the horse racing world.
If you plan on having a Kentucky Derby Party this year - the first Saturday in May - why not ask the ladies to wear a hat to the party? It's a fun thing to do and gives we ladies a chance to pull out a hat we haven't worn in a while and wear it to the party.
Mix a pitcher of Mint Juleps - I gave the receipt in a previous article - and enjoy.
Happy First Saturday in May!
