Life Begins....

I wrote this for my 'Adopted' daughter, as she reached her 40th birthday with such dread...I was trying to tell her that as we grow older, we truly get to know ourselves...and be more content within the skin we inhabit. This could apply just as easily to turning, 50, 60, etc....Age is a state of mind...but you can make it work for you and not against you...
Life Begins....At 40.....
Life begins at 40.....
When you step into your own skin,
and suddenly find it fits you perfectly,
for the first time in your life,
and you can be happy within it....
40, is about having the maturity,
to cope with what life throws at you,
and still standing strong.....
40, teaches you that your opinion is valid,
and you are worth listening to....
40 shows you the friends who surround you,
throughout the years, are true friends,
that love and value you, for who you are,
and not what you wish you could be,
not the hangers on, just along for the free ride.....
40, is about accepting you,
flaws and all, and liking the woman,
life has moulded from the child....
40 IS a state of mind,
but one you learn to live happily with...
Life begins at 40, and can be Wonderful,
as are You, if you let it be.....

This is one beautiful piece. I remember one day an old lady; a friend of mine telling me that, "Work hard my boy. Life begins at 40. You don't wanna be 40 and still unhappy with yourself.
Thanks for sharing this my friend.

Songbird, I think you hit this one out of the park. I could not agree with you more. In my 40's I have become the woman I wish I could of been in my 20's. I was not all that bad but, I did put too much pressure on myself. I allowed others to use me and I didn't know how to delegate then. LOL
Times have changed and I have learned that, yes, it is okay for others to help you and actually they should. Life is not perfect so just give yourself a break and last but not least. I opened my eyes to who is your friend and who just wants to get all they can out of you and you know what...It is okay to just let the users go. I just had this talk with my dauhgter a few weeks back, about her repeating my mistakes. She is now 26. Hon, you always seem to be point on with your beautiful writing. As always, thank you for sharing.:)

Such true words Songbird my friend and thanks for sharing your ideas. You are so right in what you say Life begins at 40. When you reach 50 it speeds up and gets into top gear. Life starts to move so fast you need to stand back and enjoy it before it goes..haha! Great share as always I loved it.....

Great poem, embrace your age. I am heading towards 70, but still feel 18 inside. Age is just a number.

Wonderful poem! I'm 53 and each year I feel better about myself and less inclined to worry about what other people think of me. Like bottles of fine wine, we all get better with age. It's all a state of mind! Thank you for sharing..
