Life has always been a struggle and remains so despite our material, scientific and technological progress. Only a change in attitude and approach to life can ensure us solace and peace. This could be by enjoying the present moments than thinking about our past or worrying about our future,

Daily struggles

Life was never easy at anytime and looks like we are nowhere near a time to relax and enjoy the fruits of the toils of our forefathers and our own; so nothing much to show for the progress over the years! We do need a certain element of uncertainty to keep us on our toes, but for the many seeking some respite, there are hardly any, sadly. Not all are wired to seek out challenges and take them head-on, to get the adrenaline pumping. Most would rather be prepared to earn a peaceful living, to be left alone with occasional headwinds, overcoming and to be done with them!

We do not know what is in store at the next turn in our lives. We struggle to keep a lid over rising tensions and risk losing control over our lives. Job security seems long past and some jobs are gone forever. The young learn their trade in schools to be up to date, with enough energy to face life with its entire vicissitudes. But for those having to eke out a living in the evening of lives, it is an uphill battle. Mind can be willing but the body soon meets its match with advancing years!

Detached attachment toward duties and results

Our instincts are to dig deeper when the going gets tough. We get used to a life of adversity and simplicity when our house is gone, when we have to fight to keep our body and soul together. It is now a relentless rush from point A to point B; few are spared anywhere. Technology's progress is awe-inspiring, distances shrinking, also sadly, our retirement funds! The reason for our predicament is well analyzed and mostly we leave the blame at the doors of our political leaders. We can change them, but all prove equally bad or even worse as time goes by!

We are increasingly burdened and under stress but one way to ease the tough going would be to take it each day. Everyday we are able to contribute to tide over and, even better, share with the less fortunate is a bonus to be savored at leisure! There is always job to be done that fall on our laps, and let us lap it up for what it is worth! As long as it makes our day, that is a base to work on; the rest is a gift. It is not a defeatist attitude and we can come out of that when better times roll in, as they must. Till that time we should keep our spirits up, bide our time; no storm lasts forever.

An accountant like me tends to worry more than do work on time to avoid stress! But many times, things have to evolve for us to do our own value addition. So we have to wait and a rush job still has to be done well. I have taken an attitude to do my best, put the best foot forward and detach myself from the end result. Of course, mistakes are not repeated but still to get overly worked-up is sure to botch our ability to do a proper job.

In personal and working lives, attitude not only decides our altitude but, more important to our families, our longevity! Though easily said, one can still relax and wait for our turn without feeling guilty by doing a good job. I used to worry over pending issues, but they prove a feather-walk in the end!

Seize the moments and enjoy them

Jobs that we value-add with tender care give us maximum returns calculated by any yardstick. That holds true for those we cannot take our eyes off while at them. In personal lives too, one can reap better returns through living the moments than worrying needlessly. Let us re-evaluate in our ways periodically with wisdom gleaned through personal reflections. As our lives are at stake and thereby the welfare of our families, let us find ways to find peace despite the many incessant storms. We are all in it together; none is spared though some do look to enjoy an easier ride from the outside! Let a change in attitude make the difference despite stormy weather beyond our control!

Thanks cowboy. I was thinking about the past - mostly the hurts - and worrying about the future. Then the present moments just drift by! Later only I realised living the present - a real present - is fulfilling! siva

I agree that living in the moment is the only way to go about living a good life. Looking back and looking too far forward are always a mistake.
Brilliant work, Siva.

High praise indeed Rama-ji. What I observe and learn from the world, I share. We learn more from our mistakes and hurts! Every personal take on life from different parts of the world re-enforces the basic fact - we are all the same, from the same source. Unity in diversity should be the clarion call! siva
