What day do you consider as rest day? Why is it important to have a day for rest? What is sabbath rest?
Sabbath Rest
Today is Saturday again. My favorite day really is Saturday because I remember when I was still employed and work from Monday to Friday, I am very excited of Saturday as I can have a break from the daily routine and daily stress of work.
Now one time I had a job that I need to work 6 days a week, including Saturday and from that time I experience working on Saturdays. Soon I gave up those job and I can't remember but I get interested in researching about Sabbath keeping.
I made some research and found bits of interesting facts about Sabbath day and the bible including the fact that I now I get bored of church life, Sunday morning religious obligations and I want CHANGE!
Little did I know that there is actually a debate on which is the real worship day or rest day- the Saturday vs. Sunday rest day.
Without being SO religious, as I don't attend church anymore, I do found that when it comes between Saturday and Sunday- Saturday should be the perfect day for worship and rest.
Since I am a kid I am used to Sunday worship-not because I want to go to church but because my mother will be angry if we don't go to church on Sundays, so I just follow because it is a house rule but now I grow up, I won't go to church if I don't want to.
For me, honestly Saturday as worship day makes perfect sense, I am not a Seventh-day adventist but I believe that Saturday should be kept holy as it was before.
Many believe it does not make sense anymore as calendars have been changed already and astronomers lost track of days and which day now really falls as Saturday.
However, as my reference only is the bible and some internet source, I guess people should still keep the 10 basic commandments and the 4th commandment :
Exodus 20:8-11 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day the sabbath of the LORD thy God: thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that within thy gates: For six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them , and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
I don't know but for many it may sound weird because a lot of people are treating Sunday as the holy day and Saturday an ordinary day. Others said Jesus broke the law because He work on Saturday and his resurrection day is Sunday. But I believe Jesus still observes Sabbath as the official rest day.
Based from my research they believe the Catholics in the Council of Laodicea, in A.D. 363 had forced the changed of worship day to Sunday- just for the people to unknowingly be disobedient to the 4th commandment and to have the mark of the beast?
Now my concern really is that it is important for us to have a rest day whatever day of the week it is as it is important for our health and spirit.
However, after some careful consideration, I think it is best to really keep the Saturday, as there is no harm in trying or following old rules. I am not sure if it is really a great issue up to now if we prefer Sunday over Saturday, but for me I think I would choose Saturdays as official rest days! Happy weekend!
