This is the poetry challenge Mark Gordon Brown submitted...Thought I'd give it a go...
Starvation in Africa
Drought in Africa
Not enough clean drinking water
People are dying of thirst
People are risking their lives
So thirsty,
That they will drink
Contaminated water
Just to quench their thirst
They risk infections
And disease
As the ultimate cost is still
Death….
Drought in Horn of Africa
Depletes vegetation
People are malnourished
Even dying of starvation
What if this were happening
To your child,
Your parents,
Your grandparents!
At the cost
To everyone
Who is suffering
From this plight
Let’s all do something
To help these people.
Wouldn’t you want to help?

I really like some of the charity programs for Africa where you can buy them a goat or something. I am saving up to buy them a Mango tree.
Thanks for writing this and spreading awareness on a serious problem.

You have reflected what I always feel; a guilty take that I should do more than closing my eyes. I recollect what I heard in school days : each can do but little, but if each will do that little, all will be done. There is no reason that the poor should suffer anywhere. When I see innocent children suffering, and others spoiled rotten, this world just gets its priorities wrong. There is everything to meet our needs, but not our greed - my favourite Gandhi quote. A worthy subject to take on for the challenge, Starrleena, heartfelt - siva
