For her great passion, the Queen was banished as her lover, Mithra the Sun God, was. Now she takes her last journey down the Nile.
Banishment
Down the Nile she sailed
The eddies reached the banks
And in wonder they came to stare
The Queen of Egypt floating by
She held her head high
Around her neck
Bands of turquoise and coral
Her toes gleamed with silver paint
Her fingers too
Still the barque sailed on
Past pastures green
Papyrus brown
Hiding from her view
The soft sweep of the desert
She knew that far away
Her lover dwelt
He dare not come
Too close again
The priests of Aten
Had banished him
Because he held her heart
Now she too was banished
Far from Heliopolis
Far from her home
Not knowing where they took her
In her heart she knew
It had to come to this
Mithra the Sun God
Pictures of how they met ran through her mind
The way he looked
And as their glances met
They knew
A love that was eternal
He came
An Ambassador to the court of
Akhenaten
He came a Sun God
His name was Mithra
He knew the secrets of her heart
He knew the secrets of her body
For they were joined body and soul
And now nothing could part them
Down the Nile
Not revenge they said
Just banishment
A journey down the Nile
To where the gushing cataracts
Hid secret valleys
Where she would stay
To count the passing days
Never to ascend the Golden Throne
Akhenaten by her side
Her children smiling
All gone
