Why music is such an important part of my life, and how much it means to me.
Growing up with the good stuff
I can vividly recall being 5 years old and my parents letting me stay up late while they had their little get togethers at our house. There was usually drinking, and card games of course, but the memory that sticks in my head the most is the music. They would playing ZZ Top, Bob Seger, a little Brownsville Station-"Smoking In The Boys Room". I can still see my mama standing in the kitchen dancing to this day. Ironically enough it was usually to "Your Mama Don't Dance, And Your Daddy Don't Rock And Roll". Of course all of that was before my parents got divorced. My mama still had the little parties after but they slowly dwindled down until they just stopped completely.
Introduction to rap music
My first experience with rap music was when I was about 6. Back then it was MC Hammer, Sir Mix A Lot, and Vanilla Ice, yes I am ashamed I liked all of these, but you gotta give me a break I was 6 years old after all. I didn't know any better. But thankfully rap music has evolved over the years, and still ranks as one of my top genres of music. I don't care how bad of a mood you are in you can listen to some good rap songs, start dancing around like an idiot, and suddenly the world is a better place.
Country music all the way
Now I am from Alabama so there was no way to escape the throes of country music fans. I have listened to it my whole life, and there is rarely a song that does not carry some kind of meaning in your life. If you ever hear the song "Life Ain't Always Beautiful" by Gary Allan actually listen to the words and I can almost guarantee you will cry. This song holds an especially strong meaning for me as it always makes me think of the children I have lost. Whether sad and sappy, or upbeat and happy, Country music always finds a way into your life, and all that listen love it with a passion.
Music for everyone
I prefer all kinds of music as long, as its not classical, But i don't really to listen to the music behind it but rather the words and the deeper meaning behind what the artist is trying to portray. No matter which type of music it is, or what it means to you, I believe that music is an important part of life. It feeds the soul, makes us happy, makes us cry, and occasionally makes us look deeper in our selves to try to discover just what life is all about.

Well, Stephanie, I'm a country boy through and through. I listen to all forms of Country and Western music, but I prefer the classic and traditional country music sound over the new country sound, As for rap music...well, no comment.
Great article, Stephanie. If you had added some pictures and maybe a list of your favorites songs in each of the sections you might have wrangled a star out of this one.
