TV is central to most of our lives. But isn't it time we stopped watching it quite so much?
The trouble with TV
Television is central to most of our lives. Almost everyone owns at least one; it serves as our relaxation giver; provides time out from our busy lives; makes us both laugh and cry; and provides us with information. Yet TV also dominates many of our lives.
When have you last got back home and not switched on the TV? When did you last choose to pick up a book before you saw whether there was something good onTV? And many of us also put on the television as 'background noise'. TV for many has become an easy friend - it keeps us entertained without answering back.
Not that I'm against television - sometimes it is great to watch a mind-numbing show when I'm tired; the informative programmes open my eyes to visual feasts, ways of re-looking at the world, and learning new things. Plus the news keeps me posted. And I will love the TV during the Olympics.
However, work out how many hours a day you watch TV (or have it on as background noise). It's probably quite a lot. What if just one of those hours was spent reading instead? Or doing your favourite relaxing hobby such as painting or playing the violin? Because as much as some TV is great, it spoon feeds us information and leaves us feeling lethargic. Can you really say four hours in front of the TV has been time well spent?
So I am going to try to cut back on my TV watching and re-discover other forms of relaxation I have enjoyed in the past. And potentially new ones too. More writing for instance :-)

heck, do TV's now a days have off switches. LOL
I have nothing against TV's, or books or any other form of entertainment. I guess in some eyes, I do watch way too much though. Nice read. Thank you for sharing.:)

this was one of the worst things ive ever heard in my life you think you know it all just because when you were a kid you didnt get to watch that much tv and you turned out so goody two shoes so fyi shut yo frekin mouth you ugly botch
