This is part of a series of stories I wrote for the juvenile and youths. The stories have an African background and very interesting as well as educative to the young ones and adults.

The Three Good Friends

Once upon a time, there lived in the forest, three good friends. They were Mr. Tiny Legs, Mr. Big Head and Mr. Big Stomach. They lived together, ate together and did everything together.

One day, they went to pluck some coconut from the coconut tree. When they got there, they began to appoint who will climb the tree.

“Mr. Tiny Legs will not climb because his legs are too tiny to hold on to the tree. I suggest Mr. Big Stomach should climb the tree,” said Mr. Big Head.

“I cannot climb the tree because of my stomach,” he replied.
“Now, it is your turn Mr. Big Head to climb the tree,” said Mr. Tiny Legs.

“Okay my friends, I will climb the tree but I will eat the largest part of the coconut”, answered Mr. Big Head.

“We all agree to your condition”, they replied.

Mr. Big Head climbed the tree. He plucked one coconut and bent down to see if his colleagues were eating it. As he bent his head, it fell off from his tiny neck to the ground. Mr. Big Stomach began to laugh until his stomach exploded. The scene frightened Mr. Tiny Legs and he wanted to run home to inform the villagers when his tiny legs broke down. The three good friends were all dead and lay on the ground.

A hen that was passing by saw the bodies of the three friends and began to laugh. She did not know when she put her beak into a burning fire. When the fire hurt her beak, she rushed to a pond and dipped her peak in it to cool the pain. Her hot beak touched a mosquito that was laying eggs on the pond and it flew off into the air. The mosquito was confused as it flew into a cow’s nostrils. Before the cow knew what was happening, the mosquito flew out through her anus and sat on a small tree.

The cow was angry and she took her knife and cut the tree where the mosquito sat without knowing that she had cut a snake that lay on the tree. Half of the snake ran into a rabbit’s hole. The frightened rabbit ran out and began to shout. The monkey heard the rabbit’s shout and ran out to see what had happened. As he jumped from one tree to another, a branch fell off and hit a pregnant Antelope that was sleeping under the tree. The pregnant Antelope groaned and cried as she ran for her dear life. As she was running, she marched on Mrs. Tortoise’s egg and it broke. When Mr. Tortoise saw that his wife’s eggs has been broken, he sneaked into the Bush Fowl’s cage and stole her egg to replace his wife’s own.
