What It's Like to Feel Down and Out

A poem about how it feels to be sad - yes, down and out - but hope for the future.
So much can happen in life to make you blue - how about you? What makes you sad and lonely?

Down and Out

I'm feeling kinda blue today,
My lover left and went away.
Off for over two months he went,
I am feeling very spent.

I sprained my foot and now I can't,
Do a thing except relent.
I am in pain as you can see.
Please, my lover, come to me.

I went outside and took a turn,
My foot is sore and it does burn.
I hobble now and go real slow,
I use crutches, as you know.

I watch old movies and get bored,
Over spreadsheets I did pour.
I hobbled round my home again,
Always wondering - when, when, when.

I hope tomorrow is better still,
So I can get back on the tredmill.
I hate this life of being disabled.
Perhaps on you I am fixtated.

I miss you so, I'm in a rut,
Please know it's you that I covet.
My best friend is not doing well,
I feel as though I'm in a cell.

I try to do the best I can,
I try to hope and then to plan.
This life's not easy for me to be,
Sane and sensible for me.
