Mandingo is about real people..living real lives...rich African history...

ROOTS

As I heard the word Mandingo Road followed was a whisper…
‘Africa’
Slowly and chanting like a bird
Sierra Leone…just one…the second is Mandingo Road.
The whisper continued…
‘Two land marks of Africa… standing pillars in Trinidad’
…All of AFRICA…AFRICA…AFRICA…

Be proud stand straight
Remember your roots…Africa…
The Congo…Egypt the first civilization…the Ashanti Mandingo
Who bought the freedom of their people before slavery was abolished
And basked in autonomy in Sierra Leone and Mandingo Road
Sierra Leone stood tall on the hills of Diego Martin
Looking down at the white masters who enslaved their brothers and sisters
While Mandingo Road lied peacefully in the planes of Princes Town…

You must remember
The drums, the dances, the clothes and rhythm
are all part of your culture.
Remember…Africa
You must know the true meaning of Mandingo
Now polluted by euro-centric remnants of colonization
And is a dying victim of objectification and hyper-sexualization
Displayed in literature and pornographic depiction

The true meaning must be told…
Africa…
The Ashanti Mandingo Warrior
A people of Islamic belief, strong, brilliant and civilize
Like Jonas Mohammed Bath Sultan
A mighty and brave Mandingo who
Battled against slavery of his people by buying their freedom.

So throw to the garbage concepts of pornography
When you hear Mandingo… be proud and
Throw away those concepts of the black peril
So that your mind can now be filled with the truth…
Africa is your roots and you are royalty
enriched with a wealth of history
