The Drama Queen makes headwaves in what he does and how he does it. Do not get on his bad side.

"I get so frustrated when I have to deal with a Drama Queen," and "I tend to avoid them at all costs."

The Drama Queen. This character always makes you laugh and cry at the same time. "I get so frustrated when I have to deal with a Drama Queen," and "I tend to avoid them at all costs." These are a few comments you will hear in the gay community. You do not want to be next to a Drama Queen. However, everyone would agree that a Drama Queen is better than a mean old Queen is.
The Drama Queen is not necessarily an effeminate man or a straight acting man. He is your average acting gay man. What makes him a Drama Queen is the fact that he exaggerates everything. Everything that happens in his life is a big drama. If you like a good soap opera, hang out with a Drama Queen.
In fact, when you write a gay character that happens to be a Drama Queen, write him as if you were writing a Soap Opera for TV. You want to write a character that is shooting for an Emmy Award. Give him the manicure and pedicure and don't forget the designer clothes.
The Drama Queen would wake up early to take a long shower with scented body wash. Use a kimono for his hygiene routine. Dress to the hilt just to go out to the supermarket. He would never leave the house with a strand of hair out of place. If he loses his job, it would be the end of the world. Spend weeks telling everyone how he was fired for being gay. Society just doesn’t accept him for whom he is.
Take a look at soap operas and you'll get your Drama Queen.

Writing Drama Queens

Remember to always be respectful. Just because they're gay, does not mean they're not cool people. They can be. Take an effeminate man and give him a lot of drama. Exsagerate all the female qualities and have fun, but respectful.

Not Just the Fems

Here's a tid bit. Not all effeminate men are Drama Queens. You have your straights, your bears, sometimes even your twinks. Difference? Yes, these are not as flambouyant, there just dramatic divas.

They're are plenty of lipstick lesbians and butch lesbians that are just as dramatic.

This series is a great guide for people who typically lump all homosexuals together as one "type".
