1000 Wikinut Nutpoints

When I wrote my first article, when I got my first follower, and when I got my first comment, I wasn't thinking about today, where I would get my 1,000th nutpoint. But the day has come, and I'm really grateful to be writing here!

1000 Wikinut nutpoints

Wikinut nutpoints have no monetary value. A person gets one per day from logging into the site. Two nutpoints are earned for every comment on an article. A person gets five when being followed by another person. Ten are received for each published article. A whopping 50 nutpoints come one's way when someone else uses one's personal link to join Wikinut.

Why what doesn't matter actually matters a lot

Nutpoints may be superficially about bragging rights, but nutpoints also help a person assess community standing. What I mean is, for example, two nutpoints are earned for every comment made on an article one has published. However, every time a comment is made on an article, every follower that article has also gets notice of the comment. If those people want to see the comment, they must click on the page -- BAM! -- another page view for the article.
Writers who have recognized this early on are quick to find articles about which they may comment, and follow lots of other writers that interest them, hoping to be followed back in return. In this way, writers perpetuate page views for everyone in their online Wikinut community.

False page views?

It does make a person wonder, when followers get comments and quickly scroll to the bottom to partake in the discussion -- how many times can the same person looking at an article count as a page view? I know Wikinut has safeguards to prevent an author from click-hacking his or her own page(s), However, I am not sure how other people's views of an author's page are monitored.
So when I tell a new person on the street that I have a blog with over 7000 page views this month, clearly that doesn't mean 7000 distinct individuals. Even divided among all my pages evenly, that's 300 views per article -- sadly, not all articles are equal. But again, is that 300 distinct individuals? Or is it 30, each looking at the article on the page once, then following 9 more message links from their boxes for each comment and my reply -- so that I will do the same for them and their friends on their pages?

Spread the nuttiness around...

From the non-nutpoint, monetary side of things, page views are the only currency that matters in the Wikinut game. But for the writers looking to increase readership and hone a craft, the comments are key. Whether one comments "nice job" or gives a detailed account relating to what was read, the nutpoints are the same. But a lengthier comment is more likely to be commented on -- compelling someone else to comment -- and adding points to the author in the process. If you want to help a fellow Wikinut -- LEAVE A COMMENT!! You can start by commenting on this page in the comment section below. (Sorry; subtlety is lost on this one...)

What is the bottom line that
decides any more than the joy of writing? True answers seem hard to find.

Your question may be rhetoric, but I will give you credit for inspiring me with an idea for another article. So thanks for that.

So sorry. The nutpoint system and the money system are NOT connected. The money comes from page views, it is LIKE CPM, click per mille (thousand). I hope that helps you. Good luck!

Thanks, Teila. I just crossed the 4,000 nutpoint mark last week. At that rate, it will take me a LONG time to get to 20K. But hey, a girl can still dream!
