A Celebration of New Life and Longevity

My father has been blessed with longevity. Recently a new great-grandson was born and he was honored when he met and held him for the first time.

A Grown Man Cries

My 93 year old father was just bursting with joy as he saw and held his one-month old great-grandson for the first time. Tears unashamedly ran down his face. The baby's name is Xavier but Dad has affectionately nicknamed him the X-man. At his age, he realizes that he has been fortunate to be a part of several generations of the males in his family who all carry the same last name. This includes his father and grandfather.

The Importance of Family

The birth of this newest member of our extended family highlights the importance of family. Not everyone has the privilege of having a living senior citizen at this age as a part of their heritage.

I know my father will be chomping at the bits to share special stories with Xavier if the Lord grants him to see more years. I can just hear him repeating the same stories that my siblings and I heard while growing up. I have to admit,I did not understand all the lessons we were being taught by our parents at a young age., Now that I am an adult I really appreciate them.

Dad's Oldest Child

On top of all this excitement he was tickled to think that his oldest child had just turned the milestone age of 70. "Unbelievable" he says when he contemplates the span of 70 years between his oldest daughter and his newest great-grandson. He considers himself to be a blessed man. And that he is.

Family Patriarch

While many families crumble from one generation to the next, I am grateful that Dad is still loved and respected as the patriarch of our family. Yes his body doesn't move as fast as it once did and he has his share of aches and pains. But if you were to ask him what things are most important to him now, family would top the list.

So Xavier, listen up when your Great-Pop shares stories with you. I guarantee you'll be all the wiser for it. I should know because I am the recipient of his unending wisdom.

Happy family indeed. May God bless your father with many more healthy years. He is blessed to have a loving family around and that could be the secret for his longevity - siva

While I haven't attained such a ripe age as your father, I am almost within reaching distance, so I can kind of see things from his point of view. He has a great-grandson; I have a great-granddaughter. (Little girls are nice, too, even if I do have a soft spot for boys.) The four-generation picture is fabulous, so many families never have the opportunity for one. I hope you realize what an inheritance you have been given by having a family who has stayed together and, I'd make book, prayed together through the years. I feel honored to have been able to read about your father and his reaction to holding his great-grandson the first time. I hope he gets to enjoy the X-man for many years.
