This is the beginning part of a review of an amazing film I watched last eve. It takes part on a vineyard in the south of France. It is about love and ambition and learning and knowing and all the good things that we have in our lives. Read and enjoy if you will...

Opening

Oft I find am led to where
Stories films places inspire
Levels of learning to come through
Opening yet another door
Into the greater part of me

This happened again quite recently
On Netflix list a film I placed
Far down it was at number 21
How quickly it reached the top
Last night I watched

Mesmerized I was by the play
Vistas wide of Southern France
In 19th century

Improvements

It told of a peasant winemaker
Sobran Jodeau was his name
Looking to create a perfect wine
A vintage far above all others made

His land his own
But overlooked by the monsieur
Of a great chateaux
Kind he was this man
Respected those who worked for him

His vintages were good not great
Improved upon they had to be

The Perfect Grape

One night when drunk indeed on wine
Into the fields Sobran made his way
Met there a beautiful angel bright
Whose wings were large exceedingly white
Who told him he would help
The perfect vintage they could make

One year passed to the day
The angel returned with parcel of vines
Taken from his garden far away

The ground owned by Sobran
Was sandy, gritty, difficult to dig
Part filled with minerals part not
Hard to grow in for sure
But basis for a perfect grape

The Frost Came

So carefully he dug the ground
With loving thoughts placed each vine
Into the rocky soil around
Then waited he to see

He sensed a frost that night would come
So wife's petticoats he tore up
Wrapped carefully round each vine
Protecting them from withering

Made small fires with twigs
Keeping air and soil warm
Man can bestow love in such ways
On earth and Mother Nature's gifts

1815 Vintage

Strong and green the vines did grow
Bunches of red grapes hung down low
Gathered they were at harvest time
Then into large vats thrown

Women men and children too
Had such fun trampling on these grapes
To crush the skins releasing out
The purple juice of all

A great vintage this became 1815

A Doubt

Each year at the allotted time
The angel returned in dead of night
To visit Sobran talk with him
In his arms did hold

Into my mind a doubt appeared
Or maybe a knowing deep
Was he from the higher realms
Or from those far below
The baby Nicolette he did ask to see
And held the child within his arms

The child died soon afterwards
Heart broken Sobran became
Especially when he was told
The child had gone to hell
Stayed in the angel's garden there

to be continued...

AHV reminds me of a Gerard Depardieu film I watched in French class a decade or more ago. I looked him up on IMDB to see if perhaps this was a remake of an earlier film, but do not remember the angel. But it was something about needing to get water to the grapes during the drought. Not much to go on, I know. I look forward to the "end" of your "TBC" review!

I think your review and poem are excellent Carolina ...and I almost thought to get hold of a copy of the film to watch until the part where it said the baby was in hell ...I truly don't believe any babies go to hell ever ...so that made me feel uneasy ...
I do hope the next part of the review turns out for good ...so I am looking forward to reading it .
God bless you

Hope there is a heart warming ending, Carolina as the baby does not deserve hell. I love to watch such films than violent ones leaving me in misery - siva
