For some reason I have been thinking about my parents for the last two days. I guess ever since my new Grandson came...It does something to renew the soul...These little miracles of life...God bless everyone.

A Pair of Moons to Rise...A Father's Love

A Pair of Moons to Rise

My mother, bless her heart,
had a big round basin
made of tin
that she kneaded bread in
twice a month.

It Was Big

It was big
her basin, big
and round
and beautifully blue
and it was battered,
like the moon.

I Remember

I remember
a certain sweetness
that seemed to drip
from mother’s clothes
and apron strings

as her mild words rose
and fell to the kitchen floor.

And it Seemed as if

And it seemed as if
I was always lost
somewhere in the façade
of her tales,
like an old boat slack-tied,
line to line
down on the river bank.

My Father

My father
lived a hard life,
God rest his soul.
He was a rather large person
but kind and principled,
and as private in his feelings
as a man could be,
spending days on end
sitting in his tabled-chair
gruff as a mountain man
,
playing endless games of solitaire,

Locked Away

his feelings
locked away
…His love

battered,
like the moon.

I have been writing since the beginning of time it seems, not because I want to write, but because I have too. My favorite form of writing is poetry, all kinds and types of poetry.

No one can replace our parents for their concern and compassion. No child can repay in adequate measure their love. This strikes a chord with me Utah Jay - siva
