A Sea of Bikinis

A teen age boy's summer fantasy while sitting on the beach

Sea of Bikinis

I wish I could swim
When I take off my shirt
With my chest warmed in the sun
And my smooth skin and golden tan
Instead of sitting on the beach
I hate getting sand in my shorts
And on my chest
I feel so helpless watching the other boys play in the water
With the girls in bikinis
I wish I knew how to swim
The colorful bikinis Are calling me
To the water
The girls look at me
With approving smiles and whispers
I imagine myself
coming to the edge
jumping into the cool sparkling water
Swimming in a sea of bikinis
With happy giggling mermaids
I imagine the joy
Of feeling the water
wash over my chest
Floating in the foam
The mermaids splash me
And pull me under
To join them in their world
But this is only a fantasy
I can't swim
Maybe if I ask
One of those cute mermaids
Will teach me to swim
And make my fantasy come true
