Zoey wants to get a glimpse of the new neighbors. She knows there's a girl that lives there because she saw a big doll house. Zoey is dressed in her finest clothes. If she should happen to run into someone from the house they will be very impressed with her.

Zoey's mishap

It was raining really hard by the time Zoey got to the stone house. She had her umbrella with her but her flip flops were slippery. Just as she got to the driveway her foot slipped out from under her and she fell. Her good outfit was a soggy mess and her hat was sitting sideways on her head. Zoey felt like crying but she knew she had to get up. She was sitting in the middle of a big puddle. It was cold and she was a mess. As she looked down at her pink pants she saw a hand reach out to help her. She looked up to see a beautiful lady. Her first thought was that this must be the mother of the house. The rain didn't seem to bother her and she was trying to help. Zoey took her hand and she helped her up. The lady smiled at Zoey and asked if she was okay. Zoey nodded and tried to straighten out her hat. It was falling in her face. The lady walked over and picked up Zoey's umbrella and handed it back to her. Zoey graciously took the umbrella with what dignity she had left and turned around and went directly home. She yelled thanks as she ran away. She was cold, wet and very embarrassed.

Mom's chicken soup

When Zoey walked through the kitchen her mom was making soup for dinner. She had the big soup pot on the stove. Mom was in the process of cutting up carrots, celery and onions. Zoey was a mess. Her hair was wet and her hat had seen better days. Mom waited for Zoey to speak but she just walked by and went up to her room. It's a good thing mom was making soup for dinner. From the looks of Zoey she was going to need some comfort food.

A new plan

Zoey went up to her room and took off all her wet clothes. Then she took a very hot shower. She had so much gel in her hair that she had to wash it twice. After her shower she put on her warm and fluffy robe and sat down on her bed. She needed a new plan. The weather was not cooperating with her. If anything it was raining harder now than before. It seemed like it was coming down in buckets. At this rate she'd never meet the new girl in the neighborhood. A bolt of lighning struck right outside Zoey's bedroom window. It scared her so bad she jumped off the bed. Zoey had a funny feeling that it was a sign of something. That was an odd thought. Where did that thought come from anyway. Possibly an omen of some sort.

A spooky thought

Zoey thought back to her mishap this morning. When she'd reached the sidewalk she looked up toward the house. It was very dark inside. This house had always scared her. The lady that had lived there had passed away late last year. When the neighbors didn't see her for over a week they called the police. The officer that came to the house had found her deceased. It appeared to be of natural causes. The house had been empty since that time. Zoey's mom had said that the lady didn't have any family. The city gave her a nice funeral and everyone from the neighborhood showed up to pay their respects. When Zoey had to pass the house she would cross the street. Zoey thought there were ghosts in the house. She might be a dragon but she was afraid of ghosts. Her cousin Bernard told her to stay away from the house. He was very smart and she always listened to him.

The lady at the stone house

Something was really bothering Zoey. She couldn't put her finger on it but she had a nagging thought in the back of her mind. All of a sudden it came to her like a bolt of lightning. The lady that had helped her up at the house was beautiful but also strange. Her color was all wrong. She didn't have much color at all. She had very black hair and beautiful big eyes but her skin seemed odd to Zoey. She was going to think about this for awhile. The lady did help her up and had given her the umbrella but something seemed strange to Zoey. Her touch had seemed very cold but Zoey figured it was because of the rain. A shiver went up her spine. Zoey wrapped her robe tighter around her. Zoey wondered if she could be a vampire. She had read stories about vampires and they were nothing to mess with.
