A Writers Lament

People write for different reasons. But for many of us, writing is a career, a passion and a way of life. We are lost when we don't pursue or craft.

Writing takes dedication and hard work

The life of a writer is sometimes a lonely experience especially when most of your friends are not writers themselves. They cannot begin to understand what reading truly involves.

Writing is more than just a hobby

There is no doubt that writing takes tenacity you have to keep at it if you want to get things done. Dreaming about being a writer without actually writing will not get you anywhere. Though some people think writing is just a hobby, the serious writer knows that writing is a job, a passion, and a way of life. Some writers like myself cannot envision a life without writing. Writing is like the air we breathe and it invigorates us and propels us forward giving us an important avenue for our creativity and a purpose for living.

I can't imagine not writing

I cannot imagine myself not writing. It is a part of me just as my heart or my soul is apart of me and I put my heart and soul into writing. Having said that there are times that I experience burnout and these are one of these times. I have not been able to put pen to paper as they say.

I have had several things going on in my personal life and that also has affected my writing. Yet, that should not be an excuse because I write my best work when I am having emotional problems. Regardless of the myriad of personal issues, earning money still remains one of them. This is where writing as a job or career comes into play.

Usually I am very good at avoiding distractions when I need to write but I have not been able to do it lately, so I wait until my muse comes back and I can feel like a whole self fulfilled person again. Hopefully I will begin to write again very soon.

Carol, welcome back! I'm just like you I love to write. I've been writing for as long as I can remember. When I was in school my favorite place to go was the library and I haven't changed. I absolutely love to read and write and lately I've been doing more reading than writing. I posted on FB today about how important the written word is and I truly believe that.

Carol, I know how you feel about writing. Even keeping a journal can be difficult it we're tired or emotionally stressed. But then we have those beautiful times when the right words flow as smooth as silk!

To be a writer you need blessings from the heavens else he'll descends on you. None the less, sometimes being in poverty like you were helps build creativity wherein you don't have to sell candle wicks and tarts to make a living.

Take care of your business. Candle wicks and tarts don't give a substantial income. They are great for charity fund raisers which you claimed you did do for your personal coffers, I never stooped low to do this.

In the name of sexual partnering. Good to know you are alive and you'll last while the rest pass fruitfully. Including myself.

Yes Carol - glad to hear from you again. Your piece reminds me of that great quote from novelist Thomas Mann, "A writer is somebody for whom writing is more difficult than it is for other people."

Hi Carol. I'm new to wikinut but enjoyed reading of your passion for writing. I've kept a diary/journal ever since I could write. Love this wikinut for giving us the opportunity to write and mingle with others who share "the passion".

Yes, one must have a passion for writing. In happier days I used to write a minimum of 3K words every day. I could get six books published.
