The deer thought hard and said, `I will go limping in front of the hunter. When he sees me, he will toss the sack on the ground and pursue me. I will lead him far away. Meanwhile, the mouse can cut open sack and free tortoise.'

The hunter was upset at seeing the torn net

A beautiful forest had a beautiful lake. Near the lake lived four good friends. One of them was a deer, the second was a crow, the third was a mouse, and fourth was a tortoise. Every morning and evening the friends would meet by the lake.
One evening, the deer did not come though it was very late. The friends waited anxiously, but there was no sign of the deer.

`Friends,' said the mouse in a worried tone, `It is already getting dark. The deer should have been here by now. Perhaps she's in trouble. Let us go and look for her'.
So the crow flew over the woods and perceived the deer caught in a seeker's net on the ground. He descended and guaranteed the deer, don't be perplexed, we will free you'.

The crow at once flew back to his friends and told them about the plight of the deer. Together they made a plan and soon reached the place where the deer was trapped.
The mouse cut the net with its sharp teeth and released the deer.

Suddenly, the crow saw the thunder coming. He called out. `Friends, hide wherever possible. The hunter is coming.
The mouse hid itself in a hole. The deer hid behind a bush. The crow to the top of the tree. But the poor tortoise who could only crawl slowly, could not hide itself.
The hunter was upset at seeing the torn net. But, on looking around, he saw the tortoise. He caught the tortoise, put it in his sack and walked away.
The deer, the crow and the mouse came out of holding. `We must save our friend', said the crow.
The deer thought hard and said, `I will go limping in front of the hunter. When he sees me, he will toss the sack on the ground and pursue me. I will lead him far away. Meanwhile, the mouse can cut open sack and free tortoise.'
So the deer went ahead of the hunter and starting limping. The hunter dropped his sack and ran after the deer.
The mouse quickly cup open the sack and out came the tortoise. They both went away as fast as they could.
The hunter could not catch the deer, so he gave up the chase and returned home empty handed.
The mouse, the tortoise, the deer and the crow reached the lake safely and lived happily ever after.
