Anyone may like knowing something more on the poet and novelist that today was honoured by Google.

A poet's life and death

Today Rosalia de Castro would be very old if she was alive. Yet, she barely reach to her twenty birth anniversary.
Many people will wonder who Rosalia de Castro was to have been honoured by Google. Some people may have read her prose and poetry, although, if one is from another country, it requires a good knowledge of the Spanish language and, if possible, of her original language known as Gallego. For others, she'll definitely be a total stranger that has happened to appear on their screens today on February 24th 2015.
Rosalia de Castro was born in the famed and stunning university city of Santiago de Compostela on February 24th 1836. Then, she died in the Galician town of Padron on July 15th 1885. If I'm not wrong, she had a short life and died when she was not even 20 years of age.
She was a novelist, but above all a poet to chant on her poems the beauty and hardships of her disgraced land and a cornerstone in the Spanish literature of the 19th Century. At that time, whoever meant to be a knowledgeable person on literature and particularly on poetry had to have read her books of verse.
She wrote in both of the languages such as Spanish and her mother tongue, but at that time and for reasons of culture and lifestyle, Gallego was very much discredited within literary circles and her prose and verse on such a language that was regarded as mere dialect weren't of the likes of many.
She died before she was 20, but I'd say she worked quite bit on writing if one takes in consideration the times she had to live in, her short life and the fact that her books on the Gallego language weren't much of the likes of people in general. However, the people from Galicia are grateful that she braved to write about them and their land in a language that was taken as a dialect for rural folks.
Some important books by Rosalia de Castro are Cantares Gallegos (Poems on Galicia) Follas Novas (New Leaves) and On the banks of the River Sar (shown on photography) as verse books.
