This is a poem sung by a woman who wants to gift something special to her lover which might last forever !

A woman's gift to her lover

What shall I give you, my darling
To see you happy and smile?
What could give you the eternal joy ?
I often think a while.

My youth, charm and prettiness
In your arms I do lay.
Alas! But these are perishable
And all bound to decay.

What shall I give you, my love
That should last forever and ever?
Coral lips and rosy cheeks
Will fade with time; do whatever.

I venture not to win your heart
With the charm of my eyes alone.
For what will you love me still
When the magic of my eyes is gone?

So, in the guise of tender love
I give you my darling, faith and hope,
For that will always keep you warm
And with your sorrows help you cope.

A word of love, a touch of care
Will make the devouring fires pacify.
A calm heart with serene thoughts
Will never fail nor defy.

So I give you , dearest, a loyal heart
In its honest frame, I offer my soul.
Youth and beauty may some day part
But my earnest love will remain whole.
