A world without food

The World is on the brink of another food crisis. This is a major problem for all and we have to give helping hands to relieve those suffering from food crisis.

Food crisis and the world

Do you know even at this moment millions of people are suffering and dying of hunger. At the same time millions of people are wasting food whilst other part of the world is yearning for mere morsel of food to fill their stomach. There are many who wonder whether this is a start of another global catastrophe over food prices. At a time of grave forebodings sounded by international experts of an impending famine that is set to grip the world soon, the topic of food crisis and food security assuming priority of world leaders, our joint effort and help could only be anticipated. Indeed, there is an acute lack of equity in the world as far as food is concerned. Do you know that one billion people go hungry daily whilst one billion more lack the vitamins and minerals necessary for a healthy life? In the contrary one billion people in the West are obese and substantially over-consuming. Low income food deficit countries have been hit hard by high food prices in recent years and many of them had to pay larger food import bills. In the face of this looming catastrophe, it suggested that without major changes in agricultural production, including far greater use of controversial genetically modified crops, food production would not be able to keep pace with demand in the coming years. The food experts suggests that farmers will have to grow substantially more food from roughly the same amount of land while simultaneously cutting greenhouse gases by up to 60 per cent by 2050.

Food wasting

The problem of food scarcity is worsening because a lot of food is wasted - up to a third of all food grown. You will stun to read, in developing countries the losses are caused by poor transport, storage and refrigeration while in richer countries the wastage most often is caused by consumers throwing away food. It is a pathetic situation and a sin to a civilized people whilst millions are dying of hunger daily whilst other part of the world throwing food away. Apart from this, water usage is another critical area, because freshwater resources available for agriculture are also dwindling. Farmers should pay attention to methods such as drip irrigation and rainwater harvesting as a solution. If we genuinely look into this global issue we should work together in a joint global drive against the problem. In the face of this alarming issue, Sri Lanka has come forward with a novel idea of setting up of a common Food Reserve to overcome the world food crisis.
This idea mooted by the President Mahinda Rajapakse has evinced the interest of leaders of the 15th SAARC summit. This novel concept, if properly implemented, is bound to bring relief to the vast swathes of humanity in the region who are weighed down by hunger and poverty in this part of the region. Finally it is the duty of every single person to save this world from the grip of the world food crisis in the sake of all who suffers immensely without any food to eat.

HEAL THE WORLD

There´s a place in your heart
And I know that it is love
And this place could
Be much brighter than tomorrow
And if you really try
You´ll find there´s no need to cry
In this place you´ll feel
There´s no hurt or sorrow

There are ways
To get there
If you care enough
For the living
Make a little space
Make a better place

Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me
And the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough
For the living
Make a better place
For you and for me

Place of love love, pave your way,
Bring in the blessing, we need today.
They are so many people dying,
Why are we covered, why are we lying.

Help us reach out and touch that hand,
To help others of our promised land.
For we are united in love for free,
Let us lend a helping hand I plea.

To dream of the world, with a brighter tomorrow,
Devoid of pain, with no sorrow.
To wipe the tears from that sad childs eyes,
Who looks to Creation, and alone cries.

For the we dream in is under the sun,
The Golden creation, behold the One.
We are all part of this mortal family,
Let us join hands and live so happily.

Our planet is broken, she is crying,
With the bash, abusing, she is dying.
The waters are rising, tears everywhere,
Can someone help her, would anyone dare???

For the world we are is together fun,
But why is it that we from peace run.
To create hurt, to torment and hate,
Return back to Innocence before its too late.

And the world we now live in shall again join as one,
For we all live under the same sun.
Lets all swords now turn to ploughshares,
Let us join hands, brothers sister everywhere.

Its our planet,we call it home too,
Creations gift bestowed to me and you.
Feel her love and beauty just everywhere,
Give thanks to Creation for just being there.

For that is when we will all live as one,
Beautifying our planet, Looking at the sun.
For it provides us nurture, nourishment and care,
She is your Universe, handle her with care.

You inspired this, thank you... :-)

An excellent article. The imagery is so sad. And you're right. The western world have no right to waste food the way they (we) do.
