As the history of the 20th century slowly gets set, like a resin that takes years to harden, one of its truly seminal figures is turning out to be Alan Turing .

Who is Alan turing ? Is he still alive ?

The general and mathematical publics know Alan Turing as the pioneer computer scientist who conceived of the Turing machine, and as the brilliant cryptographer who broke the Enigma code. Alan Turing, in around 1950 proved that an algorithm (which is basically a mechanical procedure) can be modeled as a Turing machine (TM). Often considered the father of modern computer science. Paying tribute to the computer scientist and mathematician -- Alan Turing -- on his 100th birthday, Google has brought this creative and interactive Doodle on its homepage which displays a basic interpretation of the Turing Machine. During World War 2, he was the head of the section responsible for German naval cryptanalysis.

After the war, he want back to developing his ideas on what would eventually become artificial intelligence. However, Alan Turing was also gay and homosexuality was illegal in Britain at the time, an arrestable offense.

He put forward the idea that regular repeating patterns in biological systems are generated by a pair of morphogens that work together as an 'activator' and 'inhibitor'.
