Alone in Reflection

Looking inward, by time, can be one of the most difficult things we can do.

Through the looking glass...

See this scar below my cheek

See the bruise fast fading

It tells the story of morals weak

And of teardrops cascading

See this bump upon my arm

And where the welt is red

The result of morals harmed

Of a hunger gone unfed

See this heart, it's here inside

Beyond my soul's reflection

It's where lonliness and horrors hide

Beyond my mind's conception

See this prayer I used to pray,

The ink it still feels fresh

To a god I once heard say

It pays to do your best.

Look in my eyes to see what's viewed

Beyond this incantation

In quietness and light subdued

Alone, in self-reflection.

Sometimes we have to look back to see the real us or simply look at the mirror.

Best read aloud...I think poetry read silently is like music unsung. Please look at some of my poetry and let me know what you think...they are scattered among my articles....about a dozen poems or so. Keep up the good work, I will be checking back for new pieces.
