An Autumn Prayer

A short poem about the events of a crisp fall day, a living prayer. Not everything always works out the way you wish it did, but that doesn't make it any less beautiful.

An Autumn Prayer

I knelt down not to lace up
but to adjust my pant bottoms
the door slammed itself
air pressure or something.
I said thank you with singles
George whispers too quietly.
Yeah it's on my shelf
well, I haven't read it YET...
Could I buy you some coffee?
Yes, I can go away.
The muffled engines, whistling
breeze and excited conversations,
dialogue between earth and air,
a faint grumble over dissipating
scents, wide eyes and cigarettes.

Self conscious, surprise, guilt, vanity, rejection, the earth coming to life.
