An Unexpected Encounter

Remembering a very unplanned encounter and how I let it slip away.

An Unexpected Encounter

Did you ever wonder why a particular happening in your life would stick to the recesses of your mind and then surface sometimes to tantalize your being? There is a favorite incident that occurs to me when I let my mind wonder to parts that give me serenity and peaceful feelings.

As a young man I was rather active with community organizations that served the town and county where I resided. It was through one of these organization gatherings that I had the delicious opportunity to meet a person who challenged my personality as much as she did my senses. As with a small electric shock it was both unexpected and exciting to fall into conversation with this person and then to actually feel the careening of my theretofore stable and rather drab existence going to an unknown destination. Why is it that we seem to have so much better perception after many years and a good bit of distance is put between an occurrence like this and later mid-life? Is it the mellowing of our minds that cause us to look back and determine where or what we could have done differently? Or is it that we bemoan the fact that we did not fully immerse ourselves, as we should have into a relationship and thereby take away a full amount of closure whenever it passed into our history? In any case this special relationship that evolved on my personal journey was a wonderful and exquisite voyage that lasted not near long enough to satiate my desires.

But long after a mutual conclusion of the blending of our souls the thoughts and memories come back to me to both tease and release my mind to hark back to a treasured time well spent on my expedition through life.

Ahhh....the road not taken...there can be so much to say and so little time to do it in........why do we ignore what is when we are young......why do we hate the "I told you so" or parents know better or wisdom of the ages when we are young and foolish?

I find, once I started (my mid 30's) started to stop and smell the roses, I then stopped and taken the time to relish in the moment. When I was younger, I think I was just too busy to see what was right in front of my face...Life.
Nice read. Thank you for sharing.:)
