A 86-word story that tells about a terrible mistake that caused a self confidence disappear. I don’t know if I could have shown it…

86-word story

This was an entry for short short stories under 100 words competition that had taken place a few years ago. It didn’t win anything but I’ve always kept it as it was – 86 words. I just can’t feel like changing anything or adding anything.

“I didn’t!” I cried. Father kept staring, mother weeping.
“Never dreamed our son would become a thief,” father said again.
“Maybe he really didn’t,” mother sobbed.
“You know Azam Sulton! He wouldn’t accuse our son without knowledge?”
Azam Sulton! Respected honest man! Maybe I did take his gold ring, but when?
“Okay,” I barked. “I stole it. It’s not with me, lost it.”
Father smacked hard, mother wept harder.
Two hours later, the phone rang.
“On my way!” Azam Sulton’s voice. “I’ll explain. A terrible mistake!”
