a short story about a retired man who heard noises, in the night when the clock had struck midnight. Purely an invented tale.

And Midnight Struck.

Fred Tomkinson had just retired and he had bought a small cottage in Sussex to live in for his remaining days. The cottage was out in the countryside all alone and with lovely views.
He had been there for about a week when strange things started happening. On the first night of the happenings, he had gone to bed, all the lights were out, and the grandfather clock in the hallway struck midnight. Fred awoke just after this to the sounds of a lady screaming. He jumped out of bed, searched the cottage all over, but could not find anything. So being an ex navy man he poured himself a dark rum to steady his nerves and went back to bed.

Called the Police.

The next night the same thing happened again, and then again for the next six days, always on the struck of midnight. Because Fred could never find any reason he decided to call the police.
They came but had doubts to his story. Eventually they agreed to post a policeman in the cottage at night. This lasted another week, and the policeman also heard the wild screams, after reporting this to his boss, they decided to call in physic researcher.

The Conclusion.

The physic came and set up his equipment in the hall way. After the first night he also reported that he had heard the screams, and also his equipment detected some sort of engine noise in the background.
So the next night he brought in even more equipment and stayed another night. To his surprise he found that everything pointed to a field at the back of the cottage. The next day with the help of a metal detector they started digging the field up.
What did they find ?
Well a complete spitfire from world war two, the skeleton of the pilot and one of a female which was buried under the plane.
After they removed the plane and had buried the skeletons , the screaming stopped and Fred had no further problems.

............. Be wise when choosing an estate agent.
