Anti-Depressents

So this is a quick poem I wrote on taking medication, in this case anti-depressants. In some cases it is needed to balance out the hormones in the brain and make life easier to deal with, however after a while it feels like you are dependent on them, which in turn can really get a person down.

Pills

Artificial happiness ,
wrapped up in a pill.
Working on perception,
Numbing down the pain.

A necessary action,
In a time of desperate need.
No shame in depression,
No shame in a prescription.

Until that kick, begins to fade.
Ground zero once again.
Change it up, take more, and more,
It is now a dependency.

There is nothing to be ashamed of in the taking of anti-depressants, I know it can feel alien and almost like "giving up" at the start, but if you hit low , then it is ok. We all need a "pick me up" from time to time. Be sure though that you need them as it is extremely difficult to come off them again.

Most important : If you are feeling down , do not be afraid to talk. Talking is the key. There is always someone out there who can empathize and understand to a degree, and there is never any shame in needing help.

I happen to suffer from mild SAD in the Autumn and Winter. When I went to live in the south of Ireland and being this country so rainy and dark, I thought of going to the doc to prescribe me antidepresants, which I took while I lived in the country for a year. When I went to live in town, I didn´t take them, which means that we can survive without them. Antidepresants are a way for laboratories to get business out of us just like many other drugs. I´m not taking them anymore, although, I still suffer from my SAD in the Autumn, but I´ve decided not to rely on such faked way to keep upbeat. Good share!

The prescribe them way too easily, when instead there should be better support networks. Irelands mental health system is a joke too many people just being stuck on meds and tossed to the side as problem solved.
