Are There Any Places Left That Pay For Content

As of December 10, 2015 Wikinut writers were informed that the website they loved so much would no longer be paying them. Why has this happened and where can Wikinut writers turn to make a few dollars online?

Wikinut Payments Stopped

In the past year several writing sites have stopped paying. In fact Wikinut outlasted many that stopped paying a while ago. Some sites vanished without a word to the writers (such as Experts Pages), some shut down without a warning to the writers (Bubblews) and some stopped paying writers but offered them alternative ways of making income, such as by getting GoogleAdsense and hoping to earn via that.

On December 10, 2015, I, along with all Wikinut writers, received word that Wikinut itself would no longer be collecting advertiser dollars to go towards their writers. It just was not feasible. It is my understanding that all people who are owed money will get a final payment on January 10, 2016.

What Now?

Long before I started with Wikinut I had been writing my own blog and hosting GoogleAdsense ads, but I assure you it did not make the kind of money I thought it would.

Many of the other sites I used to write for have vanished or stopped paying.

I currently also use tsu. Tsu is not a writing site as such. It is a social media site, similar to Facebook, with the difference being that Facebook makes a huge profit off of user content, but tsu pays users 90% of their revenue.

Tsu is for "original content" they want YOUR photos, not ones you found on Facebook or Google images. Contributors are paid on views on the photos. I should note that some people do cheat and do submit images they found on other sites. If caught their images are removed and they will not be paid, but hundreds still cheat and with over 4 million users it is hard for tsu to catch them until those people submit a claim for payment and tsu then reviews their profile.

As a social media site where views = payment, having lots of friends/followers, is key to earning. Unlike Facebook where people typically accept only friend requests from people they actually know, on tsu people accept friend requests from anyone who they feel will help them to earn.

Personally I do NOT accept friend requests from people when I see that all they post is stolen Facebook images and such!

You also can earn by clicking the "Share" button and thus sharing photos that others have submitted (again I suggest only sharing photos if you are certain the person who posted them is the creator).

Additionally people can send each other money using their Peer to Peer payments, and can donate to charities that are on the site.

Hope to see you there, sad news about Wikinut, hopefully in time it can come back. It was one of the better sites to write for.

Thanks, Brenda: I don't know much about Wiki. But all the others which were closed down were actually cheating the contributors and they naturally did not find sufficient standard articles to attract the advertisers.

Thank you, Brenda, for the recommendation, will check it out.

And as you said: " ... hopefully in time it can come back ..."

Ahhh, maybe we can write content that advertisers can't resist? :)

Thanks for the information. I did not get this info from the site.

I am not into photography and so will be a misfit in Tsu.

Hope I can eventually find a site that pays, even a little like Wikinut did as a motivation - siva

Brenda, thanks for sharing your article. I personally love Tsu. I've made some really nice friends there. I plan to stay with Wikinut and Tsu. I love my friends on both sites and don't want to lose them. Oh by the way I love the picture of you and Mark. You make quite a team.

Well whatever goes up has to come down and Wikinut is down. A bit sad, but can't help it

I do not think Wikinut ripped off writers.

Brenda has made over $190 on tsu in less than a year, so it is at least something.

Brenda, I'm already on Tsu, where I have just sent you a Friend request. Presumably the people you have "befriended" are OK for sending requests to, given your statement on who you do and do not befriend.

As for other writing sites still operating, HubPages is still chuntering along and is worth a look.

I have been a member of Tsu, I joined in the opening days, but had built a total of 6 cents. Not been there in a long time. I am currently looking for paid editing and writing work, but outside of writing sites.

First of all, thank you, Peter, for monitoring not only my pages! I hope you'll stay, too!

I also think it's a very good idea to look out for paid editing and writing work in other places, online and offline, which is what I've done and therefore I didn't always have the time to write for Wikinut.

I've been searching in direction of "telecommuting" and "task orientated work on websites and blogs" and got quite a few assignments doing catalogue work, writing blog posts, some translation work and some database work. It is helpful if you can handle Google Drive which is not difficult to learn.

I've also worked for fiverr.com for a while and will do so again seeing that you can now charge more for your services or projects. I highly recommend this site as I always got paid by them!

All the other fiverr-like sites were a shower and never amounted to anything.

Good luck, Peter, and I hope to see you around!

I am on tsu too, but not nearly as active as Brenda. In the time she has made over $190 I probably made $40.

If it is discussion that rocks your boat, as opposed to article writing, you could do worse than have a look at mylot.com - you simply post a discussion point and entice people to agree or diagree with you, while also joining in their discussions. And you get paid too!

You could try Chatabout.com - it's a good mixture of a site that allows you to post articles and points for discussion, and to comment on other members' contributions. It also has the familiar crop of access to surveys, video ads, online radio, etc.

You accumulate points that can be traded for cash or prizes, and it is not difficult to get the points tally clicking up quite quickly. You get well rewarded for posting articles, for example.

It is one of those sites that I stopped using a year or more ago (when I discovered Wikinut!) but I did not find it all difficult to go back to - with all my accumulated points still intact!

Of course you won't get rich all that quickly, but that is true of just about everywhere!
You are welcome to use my referral code:

This is one good thing a free hosting site can achieved..promoting link and other sites as part of community sharing of tips and opportunity next to honing each other craft. I just wish there will be no mass exodus so this Wikinut can still be relevant to all of us.
