Are We Not in Heaven Now?

Our Creator has made sure that we find heaven right here on earth. We are given total freedom to be in charge of our destiny including that of our fellow travelers. We need to take a deep breath, ponder and count our blessings.

Yearning for Better Times

Life should have been much better and we are being short-changed is the lament of most. We feel entitled to a better life, but our fellow travelers spoil the journey is the take! So what else to do than write off the present and look beyond our state of being here. Then we get what we want to our heart’s content, to be in the midst of others with similar views, and live on happily forever. Of course, there is the Supreme One to hold our hands and keep us safe from harm. But how to find meaning and challenge still is the question, but we can leave that to the one in charge. We just obey, so all is hunky dory in the end! But are we not getting lost in too much of fairy tales?

Life Here and Now

Come to think of it – our life here is heaven, and we are indeed in heaven. We are provided with all comforts, also challenges that we can easily be overcome for us to look forward to each day. We too change along the way, as we pass through various stages of life, in ways that we can hardly contemplate. Then what variety in every way imaginable! We are surrounded by the exquisite nature but, sadly, mostly unappreciated. Everything is in a flux and changes overnight. The whole universe is adapting, changing, churning, turning and finally living! Though we are an insignificant part of the whole – still an exaggeration! – we still have an idea of what is going on though some walk around that they are the masters of all they see around them and they make no bones about it to our chagrin!

Modern man has been around for few centuries and for modern woman, well it is left to different interpretations! We have knowledge of what is happening anywhere at our fingertips. What it took a month over fifty years ago to reach us takes only seconds. The whole world is one increasingly. No one can live in isolation. We swim or sink as one as the days roll by. Technology is crossing all borders and even those that can spell our doom. That means though our knowledge is increasing by leaps and bounds we are not necessarily becoming wiser, sadly! The good is managing to stay ahead by the skin of the teeth! Life and death permeates the atmosphere. Love knows no bounds but hate springs eternal too like opposite sides of the same coin!

Why We Feel Lost?

When our world and life is so enriching, why this yearning for afterlife of bliss? Are we doing enough here and now to deserve such? What is holding us from reaching a higher level of coexistence, higher consciousness, and right here? Why the gap between our hope and reality? My take:

Separation: The feeling of separation from the One could be the main element with an undying urge to reunite with the One. The pangs are felt every moment but we just cannot identify what and where that hurts our life here. We are left free to find our way but we miss the united feel without an outside binding factor. We lead disoriented life mainly due to our selfishness.

Material possessions: We try to accumulate much beyond our needs. We are feted not for our goodness of the heart and deeds but the glitter that surrounds us, though these prove transient and give us much grief. Our history is replete with stories of isolation and backstabbing of the rich but material wealth still enslaves and blinds them. I have seen few who are just treated as money making machines by family members not given to human feelings! Sadly, they remain carried away by the trappings of wealth till they are beyond redemption – especially true in Asia where every cent is bequeathed to children and that spells inevitable burden they live with before squandering them away. That which comes easy goes easy!

Disunity: Disunity is everywhere even within close-knit families when circumstances change. Some feel left out, short changed, with endless bickering and soon hatred follows.

Beliefs: Though religion should bring us to another level, it has sadly divided us – us and them in countless permutations and combinations. We should go easy as when one is born into one religion, we tend to take its teachings as the gospel truth. I believe fanatics are born and reborn into different religions – please don’t ask for proof, OK, just a gut feeling but a logical and fair take still!

Wrong priorities: We mistake the woods for the trees. We are already deep in the forest, having lived many generations, learned the lessons, but still finding our way, even fighting for survival. Cannot we trust each other in our common Journey? After all, our lives are soon over and better to forget the past wounds that are best not reopened. We look ahead – let the past deeds die along with our forefathers. It is their karma and they will deal with it. We learn the lessons from their follies and also the wisdom bequeathed to us. Let love and positive thoughts beat hatred, negativity, every moment.

Count the Blessings

Our Creator never intends to give more than we deserve in the end. Has he not given us enough and more for us to live in bliss? And He is also willing to take us earlier when we cannot survive in good health? He takes back completely, so others are left in peace – a slate wiped clean of the vestiges of the past. We are guilty of carrying grudge but the Creator through nature, Mother Earth, gives us such variety to keep us enthralled but we are still not satisfied. He has given us freedom to be masters of this planet – at least we are made to think so – and that carries enormous challenges and duties. But we are blissfully ignorant of them and still want to have better terms. Do we really deserve anything better? For me, my heaven is right here, and let me be responsible to better this place so that others have a good life. Let us pass on the baton with a fervent hope and trust that we did our best. If we are rewarded for our efforts, so be it. Common sense and inner spark tells us what to do every moment of our lives and if we respond to their calls positively, that leads to a life of fulfillment. Heaven is here and now and for me a life lived with passion and expecting little rewards means every day is a reward in itself. At every turn, there are opportunities camouflaged as challenges, so we are never short of moments that bring us memories of life well lived. It is up to us, eventually, to own up for our deeds as we enjoy total freedom - and that means living in heaven!

We are all still in learning school while learning how the world works and adapting accordingly. Heaven is more the gift of love that you receive beyond comparatives which is seamless, formless, bountiful and eternal.
I have my heaven here on Earth in form of a child who makes my world go round.
Depends where your heaven is really situated as you are what yyou co-create.

Thank you Lady Aiyanna. I am so happy that you are like me ever grateful for what is given to us every moment and really appreciative of such gifts that some seem to be unaware of. I feel our Creator works magic every moment just to keep us alive! But are we doing our part or just whining away? siva

Its a pleasure. Personally feel we do our paart in creating the world that we see around us and paving pathways for our own llife or detriment accordingly. Although many tend to believe thaat God is responsible for every debacle taking place and howw it by way of austerities beyond comprehension which could be atttributed to whining.

Thanks again Lady Aiyanna. My take is we can do much better. Yes, we have freedom and democracy, but why should we allow few to set the agenda still? I know few who walk out on their Gods and blame Him for not meeting not only their needs but also the greed. Why not clean up our act than give up as beyond redemption? siva

Thanks Steve for your uplifting comments. We are provided with all ingredients to create heaven right here by an ever thoughtful, loving, forgiving Creator. Rather than rising to a higher level, we choose to bicker and while away our times proving who is smarter and in my thought we all prove silly in the end! United we stand, divided we fall. Time to close ranks than play into the hands of few evil getting closer to blow us all up! siva

Thanks Mark. Though we get overwhelmed by problems, they turn out to be sweet opportunities when we wrestle with them and finally overcome them. My take is a major issue resolves the minor ones that linger in our minds. For countries too an external threat heals internal bickering. At the extreme, a major war boosts the slumbering economy! Hitler, in a way, got the US out of the rut of Great Depression. Fear of Russia and China kept western countries united but to enjoy life in peaceful times looks challenging, ironically! siva

Human history is almost 5000 years old and one can safely say that heaven or hell is in the human soul as per Hindu thought. Its the way you think that matters.

Half empty or half full, its the way we see it. Heaven or hell, its the way we want to live. I have had all my prayers answered and I feel blessed to be living the life that I do. When I feel down and out, I start counting my blessings and I instantly feel better. So, heaven on earth it indeed is. Thank you so much for the share, Mr. Siva.

Well-written article, Siva, but I cannot agree with its philosophy. For thousands of years have the money-men and religious fanatics laboured to make a s***t house of planet earth, showering brutalities, wars, bombs, and slavery on the people, giving us atrocities like Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, and torturings of the innocent in its wake, and I honestly cannot see how you can believe we really don't deserve any better, and I add "but to live on this hell-hole called planet earth." I think I deserve better than to forever be grieving over throes of death hurled at the people by an unconcerned elite.

Give me the tools and I will build a better world for myself, yes, but not at the expense of my neighbour! Most rich are rich by walking over the rights of the masses and thereby assure to them their inability to build a paradise for themselves, as the wealthy steal using the scourge of poverty the tools away from the majority wherewith to build a better life for themselves. I would consider myself a selfish hypocrite if I were merely concerned for my own comfort without looking over the fence to assure that my neighbour is also being looked after. Our effort is - and always should remain - to build a better world for all, and that is why Seila and I write the way we do.

You ask: "Are we not in Heaven Now?" No, we are in hell, trying to get out of it. It is true that this planet has all the ingredients for making it a heaven, but the diabolical system of money prevents us from making it one . -Reni

Thanks Reni for your take. I had in my view humanity as a whole to make our planet much more livable for all especially for the poor. Our ways are flawed but we are provided everything to make our planet heaven. Rather than trying our best to improve matters here, some have given up hope to find solace in another place and that too after our physical death. We have thousands of years of history behind us to know what works in the end and let us eschew those which bring us only wars and misery. Regarding the rich and religious fanatics, I always point out that they should be held in leash by the now silent majority who has given them much leeway.

So my view is we can still make our life here heaven - what follows is always up to individual beliefs. For me, it is karma that we carry forward based on our deeds as the soul is eternal. As the soul is now within our physical body we know its inner promptings and should balance its needs with this body and outside world that we share for now.

It is our bounden duty to unite for a better world. Our forefathers did not have awareness of our world like we have now to know that the vast majority are good people everywhere. So let us take our lives to another level though cooperation and oneness - siva

Siva, you mean so well and have limitless confidence in the collective effort of humanity to repair the affairs in their own lives by just being better people and thereby gradually converting this earth into the "heaven" it really should be.

It is a valid viewpoint, but lacking two aspects of consideration: firstly, we have run out of time to fix this world before oceanic tidal waves wash us all away. The Equinox of eras is here now, filled with the opportunity for an escape, and after that the end of this world will come.

Secondly, humanity is split between the many that are basically "good," and a "few" who are always "bad" and with their devices "crap" on us forever to make this world the "house" I was referring to. Problem is, they will never stop "crapping" on us unless the ones being "crapped" on will stop them from doing so. And since the former are not prepared to give up their mansions and butlers they will continue making planet earth the hell-hole it is now.

To sum up my statement to you then is this: We have run out of time to make this world a better place the "slow" way by waiting for people to slowly come to their senses, and secondly the evil nature of the "few" will never let go of the choke-hold on us unless we break it by force using our majority power to do so. -Reni

Thanks again Reni for your take; appreciated. My view is we should do our best, unite the majority who mean well and isolate those with evil intentions. Now the majority is too trusting and busy with own lives. Technology can come to our rescue as we know we have the good everywhere. I feel we still have the time as the end of the world concept is as old as humans! But I know where you are coming from on this as you have signals to guide you. For me, fight on for till the last moments and fulfill our karma. The good should prevail with some outside help when it matters! - siva

Thanks Kingwell, your words are so encouraging and I should not get carried away now! We all come with a return ticket but only the date of journey is unknown to us! I feel we should do our best to make this world near to heaven by keeping on perfecting our system. We are now on a plateau enjoying freedom but few still set the agenda! What a world it will be if the poor also find meaning in their lives than worrying where their next meal is going to come from. We have history to guide us and we should not repeat mistakes and redouble our efforts on what works. The first step should be to control the production of armaments. We reap what we sow in the end. We all can lend our shoulders to the wheel towards peace - siva

Siva , you have a good heart , of that I have no doubt , but I have to say my friend , that I do not wholly agree on some issues raised .I know you will be gracious to let me have my say , which is , that I don't believe this is heaven , as there is too much sorrow and misery and fear here on earth . That will not be the case in heaven . God has promised that for those whose faith is in His Redemptive power , we will have new bodies that will never die , and we will know love and joy and peace eternally , and He will dry all the tears we ever cried .That to me is a wonderful promise . I appreciate you and respect you , but on this subject my friend , we must agree to disagree , agreeably .

Hi again, Stella. Is it that you and I have a common affinity because I understand you so well and know where you are coming from?

You are right, our earth-life here right now is not "heaven" although it could be made into a "paradise" if only the evil among us could be removed. I once also believed it had to be "the redemptive power" to gain for us that heavenly life we are all seeking, but not any more. We must earn that "prize" by our persistent effort in righteousness and not think someone else has earned it for us.

Yes, Stella, we will get our "new bodies that will never die" in lives to come, but if we wish to receive the bliss of being there, we must have first earned that right by our persistence in righteousness.

I hope one day you and I will see eye to eye on the finer details of our eternal life in a heavenly future environment. Respectfully -Reni

Thank you Reni. Yes, the good is always made subservient to the evil who manage to set the agenda - democracy or otherwise! Why can't we fight for peace than war that is much more costly and also kills the innocents. Again, my point is fight to the last man and thereby show our gratitude to The Creator for providing every ingredient to make this a heaven. Nature is still heaven though our greedy appetites know no boundaries. The unseen hand of Creator is at work to keep us alive like pressing the "refresh" and "reformat" buttons all the time. I too believe in eternal life and we will all step out of the present decaying body at the appropriate time. Then we know whether we did justice - siva

Stella, I appreciate your viewpoint and always welcome. When I posted this rather provocative and rhetorical article, I wanted disagreement mainly to understand different points of view. Though born a Hindu, I love to understand other beliefs. I have studied in Christian and Muslim educational institutions and I love the variety in my friendship circles.

My main point - why not the vast majority of good, peace, loving people take up the challenge and the cudgels for a better world. Let after-world take care of itself when we reach there in due time. As you are aware, some are even brainwashed that they will surely be in heaven after killing mostly innocents here whose crime is they have different beliefs. The Bali bombers were even promised 72 virgins for each! Of course, the alerts came that heaven is running short of virgins!

My simple take - when I take my last breath here - I did my best and ready to accept and meet whoever that I am eligible to meet. If nothing, so be it - I have touched few lives and also, hopefully, some of my articles will survive me for a while. But we all should do our best as one to lend our shoulders to make this place heaven though it might not ever match the real one! At least we tried. Thanks Stella you are ever welcome to post your views to lend love, variety and wisdom as you always do - siva

My dear Siva . Thank you for allowing me my point of view . It will never change where the Saviour is concerned . He has paid the ultimate price for all mankind's redemption , and I in gratitude have accepted it . His word is a lamp to my feet , and a light to my path , and it is His narrow path I will always walk on . I am very thankful for the friends I have met in the world , and I also have no doubt ever to my other noted friend , that my viewpoint will never differ. My Bible is my Manuel for living , and the Lord is my ever present help through the maze of this life , and will be there for me in the next .
God bless you dear friends

Wow! What a fantastic debate you stirred up Siva!! Congratulations!! I believe we all have valid points!! However, as a Christian I believe that Heaven is with Jesus, and, as we abide with Him while we are still on this earth, it can seem like our life is heaven on earth because of the love and peace knowing Him gives us! I also see things from the perspective of eternity. This life is but a grain of sand or passing vapor when compared to the eternity we will spend in Heaven with God. The Bible says that we will actually have duties to perform in Heaven according to our talents and interests! So we sure won't be bored!! When we view life from the perspective of the eternity we will dwell with God and our loved ones, it is easier to stay positive! Thank you Siva for always seeing the positive side of things!! Your positive attitude brings so much joy to others and also helps your loved ones live longer. I am sure that your family views living with you in their lives as a bit of Heaven on earth!! Positive people always bring us a glimpse of Heaven!!

What touching comments, Judy. I know some could have been offended by my post but people who know me here, like you do, will see the positive angle. I have lived in few countries and I can vouch that good people reside everywhere and are from all beliefs - sadly, the bad ones too! We are all born into different cultures and families and obviously feel obliged to follow the same customs and practices. For me, I do not want to offend the spirit and soul of my forefathers by refuting their beliefs. But I know enough of other beliefs to understand that they too give guidance and solace to their followers who seek refuge in them. They get rattled when their beliefs are questioned.

My main point always has been - let us stop fighting in the name of unseen Gods. They never gave us the mandate to kill our own in their names. If some take such a view they have been led astray.

I know the concept of heaven that is laid out in various beliefs but the Creator could feel short-changed if we blow it here. After all, he is making, remaking and rebooting our system every nano second. Let us coexist and agree to disagree when needed. My aim is to spread some healthy understanding which I seem to succeed now! Thanks dear Judy for such warm reaction. You are indeed my well wisher and I am sure you will wave me in when you see me up there! siva

By name yes, Loverme, it is God's name. Though Shiva is the Destroyer, I am more like Vishnu the Preserver. I cannot create, so I am not Brahma! I am grateful to all Gods and help to keep this place going through my efforts which are negligible but I still make a sincere effort. You may be wondering when as I am mostly at Wikinut and rest of the time eking out a living! But I send out good vibes all the time though I seem to get on to the nerves of some like you do too! siva

We make this life of ours heaven. We are responsible for that.

Thank you LexSantos. You are right on spot. Let us do our best here than be fixated on afterlife and, for me, that too depend on what we do here - siva

I have no hesitation to agree with the rest but this one line 'Our Creator has made sure that we find heaven right here on earth.'
Well, reckoning your views- I feel the earth is a temporary platform for us all we have to travel a far from here for the ultimate destination- where there will be no clock. it's a temporary world and life.... my friend. All temporary- happiness, sadness, problems and all..... isn't it?

Thanks Karim. My take was our Creator has given enough within us to make wise choices and outside us - all the natural resources to make our visit here a most pleasant one. Despite knowing what to do for a fulfilling life, we prefer to drown in negativity - at least, a few manage to pin the majority down. Yes, our beliefs might point to heaven beyond our shores, but do we deserve such taken as a whole? siva

Great wisdom .. ... I know how you explain things.. you are intelligent and I understand you point of views too. I have got no problem to give you a thumbs up... I just expressed my belief..
What if we are all dreaming , what if our life is a kind of dream... which is in reality some seconds or more..!

Thank you Karim. I always appreciate your comments which you express clearly. My point is rather rhetorical - the Creator has given us everything and is leading us through nature, making us able to survive and procreate. Whatever may await us later, what prevents us from making our place a much better place? No one will be more gratified than the Creator Himself! siva

Heavfen on earth without streets paved with gold is a delusion of tales not told. Satan distorts many mindsets. But heaven is not on earth. Not yet.

Thanks Johnbee. My point is we should do our best towards reaching heaven on earth as we are given all the necessary ingredients. On top, an unseen hand is holding our hands and works 24/7 and even much before we ever set foot here. When we have done out part here then we can get ready for the "real" one! But I would like to have everyone from here to be there too. Otherwise, it is not just right, my being selfish! - siva

but heaven is not on earth. not yet.

believe what you may…. there is no heaven in an unknown place ….a heaven that you profess …none has ever seen ….nor been …..the earth is the place Lord ….God so kindly made… if you can't create… nor equate it with a heaven ….why steps of altars you pace …the Lord hath given you a chance ….to dwell just once …make earth heaven or hell ….tis up to us ….and you too… who preach beyond those…. then unearthed skies ….now I have flown into the wilderness….. sky high and always love to return…. back to earth ….my home is my heaven ….for some it may be
a haven….GOD BLESS!

I cannot say whether there is heaven or not as none is willing to come back and tell the tale - it is the top most secret! But I know for sure someone is working round the clock to keep us alive. What we add is nothing compared to the contribution from this unseen super being. When we are grateful for each day and contribute to general well being, then we feel like we are in heaven - a heavenly feeling! Let us hit our beds everyday having done our bit. Thanks Loverme - siva

Thanks Rama-ji, my pleasure. These are my own take from what I see and learn everyday. The Creator wants us to have open minds and that is why we can think and decide. When nature is able to reinvent itself to meet not only our needs but greed too, why not we feel grateful than wait for another heaven? Taken as a whole, does mankind deserve such? Let us work as one - united we stand, divided we fall! Namaste - siva

The only truly universal command, is that we must love one another nothing more complicated. If we live our lives as caregivers, nurturers, we are already in heaven.

Thank you TP for your wise and comforting words. We should accept and trust people as they are and then they will do likewise. We need to shed ego and then we will find we are all same with similar feelings - siva

Thank you Rukmini. Many want our Creator to give us even better! But do we deserve that? What use if we take our baggage there too and make a mess of it? We get what we deserve in the end! siva
