As time goes by

Looks at how things change with time how it makes us feel. Meant to make us realise that everything falls prey to time, and that we need to make better more efficient use of what is at our disposal

Prisoners of time

I look at the paper becoming yellow,
The ink disappearing like water from a faulty cup.
It seems like yesterday had a mop of black hair,
Now when I look in the mirror I get a scare.
The car used to be an amazing sight,
Now it looks best at night.

The television gave me a good picture,
More often than not it is a good colour mixture,
Time caused darkness to be a permanent fixture.
Everything is owned by time,
It is more powerful than a dime.
The monster can rust and melt solid metal at a glance,
Iron and copper don't stand a chance.

Every time I drive it's a worry,
Matters not if I drive a bmw or a lorry.
It can take wood and devour it like termites,
Without a referee it wins it's fights.
I'd better get to eating that ice-cream,
Else it'll disappear like yesterday's dream.

When I think at night I get a fright,
It can shrink a giant with it's might.
The king can eat me up and swallow,
Inside of me is already decaying and hollow.
I feel like he's waiting for me in the shadows,
How quickly it'll pull me towards old age, whoever knows?
Just the other night I was out of breath,
It's almost like he is planning my slow death.

I refuse to be his victim,
Be it bright or be it dim.
I might be a mortal but I'm not crushed ice,
So what if every day I have to roll a dice?
It is true that I have limited time,
I just have to make the most of the clock's every chime.

I can reduce the resources that I waste,
To take more care on the things I normally do in haste.
I understand I need to get more done to fight the king,
I will find an antidote to it's powerful sting.
There will be less time spent on daydreaming,
When I do something I find exciting I wake up beaming.
So all the while I get to stretch time's tight elastic band,
I used to be drowning but now I see land.

Writing is about the heart, I want to touch peoples' hearts about something important like love. If something touches the heart, it makes it thought provoking.

So true that we are prisoners of time and that not everything ends up the the way we planned it. I refuse to be the victim as well.
