At Work

A funny thing happened one night at work to some very hungry people.

Have you ever had one of those nights?

In my job as a Canada Customs officer at the airport, we worked a lot of different shifts and one of the things that was really enjoyable was having breakfast/dinner together on our last night around 0430 hours in the early morning. As a team we all brought various parts of the meal, some bringing pop, some salad, bread, paper plates, cutlery and someone always brought a dessert. We all looked forward to having a nice meal together during that midnight shift.
We arrange it so that someone was always on duty and we relieved each other so everyone gets a chance to eat.
Well this particular night we had late flights so a few people had stayed back so that they could join us even though they were not scheduled to work.
We were looking forward to lovely homemade lasagna with fresh salad, garlic bread, fruit and some kind of dessert. We could smell the lasagna cooking in the staff kitchen. Yum!!! We were positively salivating! No one brought any other lunches and we were waiting.
Here it was around 0400 hours, we were getting ready to go eat.
Unfortunately we were to be bitterly disappointed! The woman who made the lasagna was taking it out of the oven, it slipped…. It was really hot!!! The glass baking dish slid to the floor shattering to a thousand pieces and making our lovely dinner inedible.
We laughed about it later as we munched our garlic bread and salad but we all went hungry that night.

It's always better to laugh even when we are hungry.
