Atlantis and her fall, and the birth of legend! Similarities?

O, Atlantis – cry the ringed city,

Gone with the waves, oh, what a pity!

Legends were told and passed on as myth,

The city, the fable – now lost in mist,

Born in the ages before time’s dawn,

Upheld as a wonder, now long gone,

A utopia, a wonder, to all who saw,

Cathedral, kaleidoscope – holding all in thrall,

Covering the globe with its influence and might,

It might exist still if it didn’t lose sight,

Turning its greatness, its glory to sham,

The beautiful city saw itself damned,

From the midst of the sea it shone as jewel,

It sparkled like diamond – all cold and cruel,

The waves crashed against her casting her under,

Great crystal broken – being torn asunder,

When last the sea stopped – and all was still,

No people, no city – just legends fulfilled,

Stories were told of its greatness which died,

Of the moral of the city great myths do fly,

A crystal carapice showing charm,

But inwardly all moldering harm.
