Two years back I posted my poem "Laconical" on Yahoo Answers asking a question thus:
Please analyze & critique my poem: Laconical. Is it really worth? My Y!A username is bijja.

Now, to my surprise, I have found that this poem has been plagiarized by someone and got it posted at five different websites.

Also I will write to the owners of the above five Offending Websites where my poem has been plagiarized.

While copying may be a twisted kind of compliment, done without permission is an assaultive act. Like intelligence, scruples are not evenly distributed :-{

Yea, there's this irony as a compliment as I also think, while the work is stolen, maybe because the thief was much charmed with my poem.

Thank you for the kind comments, David!

Read 'The Liars Pen' then read 'A Mothers Love' Then check all the other posts on The Mothers Love page. The results are startling.

You write such beautiful poems. I am sorry this happened to you. You are so sincere and honest, you should not have to deal with it.

Hi lovely Ivyevelyn, thank you for the kind appreciation.

I really worked a bit too hard on this poem with a spiritual bent of mind.

Dear Rathna,

Dear sir,

I was shocked to see my poem plagiarized randomly at the first link on the Google search results, but I was doubly shocked to see it was done on five different websites.

Copyscape.com is one free website that helps you find the copies of your pages, but Google web search is the best in my opinion.

I'm amazed and disgusted by plagiarism. I can't understand it. And to plagiarise your poem times is unthinkable. They even have the same title, for heaven's sake. How can these people live with themselves. I hope that by publishing this page, you will get some compensation.
By the way, 'laconical' is a really fantastic poem. Really fantastic, sir.

Thank you my friend Sheila, for the kind concern expressed in your comments.

I thought of compensation, but I don't know how should I proceed, and is it worth the effort?

Suing them would be expensive and a lengthy process. If you publish anything online, then you have to accept the risk that someone else may plagiarize. If you can prove they made a good deal of money off of it, then it may be worth pursuing. Otherwise, you have to weigh the risks of publishing online at a pay-per-view site versus working online for an employer that will pay you a lump sum upfront, and then you don't ever have to worry about the future monetary benefits because you have already been compensated.

What kind of person would do this? It's horrible. At the same time, David has a point--it's a strange kind of compliment. I'm sorry this happened to you and thank you for sharing--as it can happen to any of us and it is good to know the links you've shared. A bit scary how easy it is for people to steal on line. Hope this clears up soon. Namaste, rd

An article of mine "August 2 Armaggedon" was plagiarized a couple of months back. What I did was report it to Wikinut and confront the culprit on the comment portion of his page, and he seems to have vanished from the face of the earth.:)

I hope you get compensated, dear friend.

I wrote an article in 2006 that had over 70,000 page views and later found out that someone took it and reposted it on another site under their name. I contacted them about it, but I don't think this person actually spoke English, but I chose not to waste any more time on it.

That should not happen to a poet. I would dare anyone to step on my toes as they have yours. I would like knowing the outcome with the offending 'webbers.' Please let us know what happens and if they have made ammends. Thank you for posting your experience here with us to know this really can and does happen. Good luck. Smiles, Bets : )

So sorry this had to happen to you... poetry comes from such a personal part deep within and which you want to share with others but it should never be stolen!

What made you decide to look to see if it had been plagerized in the first place? Is this something we should all do from time to time? I wish there was a way to watermark posts.

There are hundreds or even thousands of thieves across the Internet. I also encountered the same problem at triond. Of course, I did not quarrel the plagiarist. I even visited to his site where my article was published. I even wrote some comments said, "I know now who you are and for that thank you you love my article. You love of my being stupid. I wish for my next visit here - my article is already deleted." After one week his site was no longer available. It was totally closed. That is the reason why I always use my pen name for every article I published as one of the tags.

There is a thin line that differentiates copyright and plagiarism, but copyright is a broader term as compared to plagiarism. You can do duplicate content check with the help of plagiarism checker tool, but is there any tool that can help detecting copyright infringement in artwork?
