Bare Trees

Late October is the time for north winds and bare trees, but in this austere beauty I hear the voice of Maine's stanch history.

Bare Trees

In the harbor,
The gentle blue of morning
Is the ocean's shine,
Inlets are the harsh defining lines.
A rocky cove filled with timeless pines.

Bare Trees

The hills are washed from the shore,
Fields of wheat, tan and tall
Rolling on the ocean's wind;
In the relentless rhythm of sea and sky.

Bare Trees

History is a whisper
Within the north wind's roar,
As it whips angrily off the shore
Through the woodlands.
October, cold and bright,
And the bare trees of Autumn.

Reminds me of the lyrics to the U2 song October...
"October.. and the trees are still bare of all they wear, what do I care, October"

Great poetry, my friend. The images are fantastic. Autumn looks so similar to the Autumn in the North of England. And I LOVE Autumn with all its colours and majesty.
