Be Prepared for our Bubbles to Burst

We feel comfort within the bubbles we seek refuge in, but we have to be prepared for a time when they can burst, pop. We are also encased safely in a bubble we call planet earth that we take for granted.

Our Comfort Zones

Most are not adventurous and seek refuge within bubbles where we find our comfort zones. The pioneering rich take risks but seek company with those of similar ilk – birds of a feather flock together! They fight to retain their terrain, privileges, and have no compunction in fighting to get more tax breaks as without wealth how can they provide employment to lesser folks? Soon it becomes a birth right to stay above the rest by hook or crook. Others cannot catch up with them as the wealthy have stolen a march. Then does the majority’s interest come to play or only that of the few who hold sway? The well entrenched, like big oil companies, set the agenda and the rest are made tools to achieve their selfish goals. Only the most powerful country can bring them to justice but only when their interests are affected like when a major Swiss Bank was in cahoots with their wealthy to avoid paying taxes in America. Countries with lesser clout have to grin and bear it. One downgrade of their country rating leads to change in government. So the rich in those countries have a field day! No wonder some Americans are willing to give up their citizenship that is coveted by millions including from China! The latter want to get into a US bubble far away from Chinese justice which can be swift and favors their communist party.

Choice of Bubbles

When we become aware of the ways of the world we can decide which bubble we want to get into. Some are more into wealth as the deciding factor, but do they realize that path is not paved with gold? But does such thinking make sense anyway? It is like when one was given a choice to select one from two boons extended; one - a happy life without money and the second - millions without happiness. Some could well opt for the second to enjoy their wealth even while sacrificing happiness!

The Wealthy

The media keeps highlighting wealth as the be all and end all of life. Maybe, they have to make money too in a mercenary world where truth and honesty are the casualties. People buy into dreams thinking wealth solves all problems and being greedy is the way to achieve their goals. Dreams are free and the poor dreams of becoming rich and salivating at that prospect while the rich get nightmares of becoming poor! My personal take is the rich are out to make a quick buck and how else than making a killing from ordinary folks? They cannot outwit those greedier than them – in fact, the process works a reverse Robin Hood in daily life – the poor succumb to the guile of the greedy who themselves fall victim to a smarter fraudster! And they manage to stay above the long arms of law leading to a cynical world where values are treated as old-fashioned!

Politics

Politics is the best business and tool to make money in many democratic countries. Just promise what people want to hear to get to power and then recoup the investment many times over and reward the sycophants hanging around for crumbs! It leads to the common citizens being used as a tool and then forgotten! It is musical chair in power in most countries with the same people holding the strings and manipulating the system to their advantage.

Business

Business can become addictive with the perks that go with it. But it is not a one way street either as we forget to draw a line. One can become strangers to own family. It is not a comfortable situation for most as instead of reporting to one boss each customer has to be won over. Only few can thrive in such a demanding choice of lifestyle. The rewards in terms of money could entice some but that should also go with contributing to the welfare of society like scientists do but it descends to exploiting the most vulnerable!

When Bubble Bursts

We go through phases in life and our psychological needs change over time. The bubble can burst anytime and we can find ourselves in a vacuum of our own making when having to face the harsh realities of life. These happen when business fails or one gets played out by close associates. Are we ready then to face life without the accouterments of wealth and power? I have seen the despair of wealthy when they sense their own are getting impatient to get their hands into the cookie jar; the temptations just become overriding.

The choices we make in life should be balanced with our individual tastes and realities; not based on herd instinct. Most would like to be rich than be poor, but here do we draw the line? On a wider scale humanity has been in a bubble in terms of climate and balking before another major war involving super powers. How much are we aware of the realities that matter in the end so that we do not willfully go over the precipice. Playing with fire has been the name of our game all along but so far some unseen hand has helped us along. That same superpower has kept us safe in a bubble we call planet earth! The bubble within which we live in can burst anytime more due to our folly than nature taking its course.

I think the financial bubble in America is about to burst again, since the banksters are behaving just as badly as they did last time around in 2008-9. Great star page Siva. Thank you.

The people guilty of squandering wealth and tax money of Millions go scot-free not only in US, but In India too. Seems like they have an International network which is guarded by forces which common people are afraid to break.

Yet, one ought not underestimate the common Man.
Here, I would like to quote a dialog from a Bollywood Movie (Yes I am a Big Bollywood Movies Buff! )
"Jai Ho" : "Aam Aadmi ek sota hua sher hai, uth gaya to chir-phadh kar dega".
"Common Man is a sleeping tiger, if he wakes up he will be very destructive."

Agreed Ptrikha. The few selfish are needling the common man and testing his patience. In India too every election gives lots of hope to the common citizen but the leaders elected are only out to please their own after the elections; they forget those who voted for them. However, I get a feel the people have understood that there is no use waiting for the leaders - whatever they can do they are doing in groups to improve their surroundings.and lives. Talk is cheap but people are thirsting for real action at the ground level - siva

And in the upcoming General elections, I sense that many more people will come out to vote and Politicos can no longer take things for granted and neither can other people who hold the strings of power in India- be they at state or central level.

I agree Ptrikha. I feel the awareness of what is denied by the few conniving is clear by now, but the issue is how to bell the cat? We need progress and that can be achieved only through those willing to step forward. Let them be motivated by a reward system through serving the needy and the right approach, not through the present ways where nothing satisfies their greed - siva

Good evening, Siva. Wonderful article and images. Bubbles burst all the time. When I made the decision to close my recovery home after 20 years, I was lost for about six months. I am thankful for the resiliency of recovery that helped me change directions, review priorities and find a new direction later in life. That is what too many are unable to do - switch gears after a life altering change, even one they have decided to make. ~Marilyn

Thank you Marilyn. Bubbles burst at every level - individual, society, country and even for our planet too. How we pick up the pieces decide our mettle and bonding. I have been hit between the eyes, even back-stabbed, and as the famous saying goes - what does not kill us makes us stronger. Maybe, we have to be in a bubble that is inclusive of the whole planet as we are on a common journey - siva

Sometimes it is better to be the Bubble Blower dear Siva , than the one caught temporarily in the bubble ...for truth is , bubbles always burst - splatter, and then are forgotten ..whereas, the one blowing bubbles expects that to happen , but lives for the joy of the moment while at the same time knowing the inevitable will take place .
Then... time to blow some more !
O o O o O o PoP !! \I/ ( ) !!

“ Amid life's quests, there seems but worthy one: to do men good. ” says Gamaliel Bailey. Yes, your bubble analogy is a good one and we should take care before seeking refuge in bubbles, because when the bubble bursts, "Humpty Dumpty will fall"!

Thanks dear Subra. Bubbles are not meant to last as the bubble of this planet will also run its course for everyone and for the planet itself. We can only take temporary shelter. So, carpe diem, joie de vivre, as long as we can but do our duty, and what it is none has to tell us! siva

There is so much to be done. A wise man once observed that the harvest is great, but the laborers are few.
We are the laborers who must prevent the bubble from bursting, don't you agree?
Your reflections here are the call to action for all of us. Thanks for the timely insight, Sivaramakrishnan A

Thank you Patricia for your input. When there is overpowering darkness we need to shine our light more. One of my old friends told me life is losing its charm and I agreed the "old-fashioned" family bonding is unraveling. Now each is into their own thing oblivious to human emotions that make us different from robots. We should not lose our way having come thus far through mutual sacrifice and coexistence - siva

Every darkness disappears Siva--when Light is switched on. It's really that easy to overcome darkness's threat. It has only one weapon--and that weapon is effective ONLY if its propaganda can convince you that the darkness's strength is greater than the Light you already possess.
That's a pretty weak weapon!

Thanks again Patricia for shedding further light on the subject. We know the saying the darkest hour is just before dawn. Everywhere there is a fight between the good and bad; the classic duality of creation that exists within our minds and also body - like the good cholesterol and the bad! siva

Thank you Writermom. Life is full of uncertainties. We try to seek solace within bubbles but they burst often leaving us to fend for ourselves again and again. Only our creator keeps track of us to make sure none is left behind - but we worry needlessly about leaving this place. Financial bubbles happen because of the greed of few and our taking a view that history will not repeat! siva

Thanks for another excellent read ~ Siva. Great analogy of the bursting bubbles. I do believe that our Creator placed within us everything we need to enjoy the life He desires for us to have. What you describe is so true. Part of the problem ~ though ~ seems to be ~ we get distracted by comparing ourselves to others ~ rather than running the race our Creator set for us. Blessings to you.

Thank you Helen. A life lived for others gives the best reward for us, society and the planet itself. When someone goes out of the way to help in this dog-eat-dog world (just an age-old expression as our canine fellow travelers are better at coexistence!), can we forget them? The Creator has given each one of us enough and more but as Gandhi said there is everything to meet our needs but not the greed of one person! The Age of Enlightenment will start when we accept others as equal and then we become true co-creators and our Creator will take care of the rest maneuvering our universe to a place worthy of his creation - siva

Good one siva,

still it's hard to criticize those in their bubbles, the bubbles must be serving some type of function for them, probably one of protection for now.

with no separating bubble we become I guess part of it all again.

Thanks Spirited for your thoughts. The bubbles that we seek refuge in keep bursting and our fear is we do not know when. We should be ready any time to embrace not only the creation as we know it without borders but also leave this bubble that we call planet earth. When our mind is set free from such inhibitions we are truly free - siva
