Better an Optimist than a Pessimist: Best is to be a Realist!

The whole Creation is ever alive and on the move. There is no end when there is no beginning! Enjoy the ride for eternity, taking all as part and parcel of existence and enriching every moment. Realism is our best companion in this ride.

Life is never a Bed of Roses

We know from history and just looking around that life is a challenge even for the blessed. Thank God, none is spared! All are under the scanner. Some have little time and life for them becomes a rushed job. In fact, they live for others mostly, so are blessed! But on closer scrutiny, few seem to enjoy every moment and it boils down to attitude, not due to wealth! They enjoy the moments and just wait for the storm to pass, as it always does, thankfully!

Adaptability and Approach

There are ways to face life and keep smiling. For me, it is to enjoy the good times with an awareness that challenges are never far away; in fact, they are just around the corner! It is best to face them earlier in life so that we live with such experience and the confidence derived out of overcoming them. Challenge is never a death sentence though it does appear as one at times! It is our adaptability and in some ways for me, self-deprecating takes. I try to disassociate myself and become an outsider. Some that looked like sinking me for good have left me without a trace or scratch! And I have lived to pat myself having overcome them. The lessons learned are deeply embedded in my memory and psyche and life gets enriched thereby.

Optimism and Pessimism

We see amidst us both optimists and pessimists. The former never give up while the latter shows the burden and take themselves as eternal sufferers and view others as born with silver spoons. But on closer scrutiny, the shoe can be on the other foot. They just refuse to realize they are also blessed! We need all for us to live among them, to add value to our lives. We can, at least, offer comforting words, if not more!

Realism

I try to be a realist; that life will have no meaning without inherent challenges. We can go overboard with too much of a good thing and one should get used to challenges. My way out in trying times is – others who are in deeper holes take life on a day-to-day basis without rancor; why add to overall misery? I look at few bright spots – squeeze blood out of stone though the blood is from my bare hands! It is how we adapt – never be a mourner and compound the misery!

Living the Moments

Every moment passes. The whole creative process is in a race to a destination unknown to us. Being human, we take there is an end. But has there been a beginning for us to take the end as a certainty? For me, none will ever know, at least, as long as we are in the present state and awareness!

Imagine our existence is forever; with a take that soul is never born and is eternal, phew! That means we have to reevaluate our values, add meaning to our existence on a long term, eternal view. True rewards and punishments escape us here; believe in the Creator to be aware of this reality! We receive obviously, so also have to give and make it a habit. It need not be a burden but a joy every moment; that is lived, faced and even enjoyed!

To consider other takes - like it is the dead end after our last breath; realism again comes to our rescue. Having been a beneficiary from others – even those who live with a heavy heart will agree, I hope – let us give back to society when we are in a position to do so! Then when we hit the bed every day, our conscience will lull us soon to sleep and sweet dreams. I wake up every morning awaiting stones thrown at me and try to convert them into flowers. Those who throw do not know me and may do so in self-defense! I feel that too is a realistic take how to go about life! Life then truly becomes a bed of roses!

Again, you've nailed down another Universal Tenet: 'Those who expect better often realise the 'good' in adverse and/or challenging experiences.

Siva, what a gem you have here. When you wrote 'For me, it is to enjoy the good times with an awareness that challenges are never far away; in fact, they are just around the corner!', it just made me stop in my tracks. I have copied it down and I am placing it on my refrigerator, where I am able to see it throughout the day. It just smacked me, that hard! Love it. What a gift you have given me, I see myself having a sounder sleep tonight, bless you my friend. A well written and well presented page. Congrats on this well deserving star. As always, thank you for sharing.:)

Denise, your wholesome and no holds barred encouragement touches my heart. I try to share my thoughts in such a way to prove we are all one and the same. We are born here to live together in peace and for a purpose. Unity in diversity should be our theme. Physical body will decay but the soul should be nourished with positive thoughts and action. Love should triumph, always keeping hate at bay! Thanks again for such lovely comments - siva

Siva once again I'm delighted seeing you getting the Star. Speaks volumes for the realistic way you see the world and humanity. You are a natural realist in your day to day life, which goes to show why you are able to be honest and upbeat about your take on life and its vicissitudes. Wish more people in this world could emulate you! Your page also resonates with the point I stressed about the need to be positive-minded in my recent article. The world is your oyster and there is so much one can realistically do to improve oneself and others instead of adopting a cynical approach to life. Keep it up Siva!

Thanks indeed Subra for such unstinted praise. I try to share what I have gleaned from life. Many have nothing in terms of material possessions, but are happy and contented. One needs to have balance and we have to shift gears often to achieve that. Again, Gandhi's words come to my mind - we have everything for our needs but not the greed! siva

As we grow older, the challenges appear greater and our ability to overcome them becomes suspect. But we shall overcome and face them all headon! I am with you, Ivy - siva

Thanks Rama-ji. Creator gives us optimism every moment but our mind plays havoc - of our own making. Look around, doen't nature reinvent itself, even put up with our negative traits? Thanks for Amma's quote. Namaste - siva

I thought as much I had read it before
and as you say

.....'''There is no end when there is no beginning!... by Siva…

well there will be no end yes
but there must have been some beginning ….years …eons …eras down memory lanes
sealed… embalmed in human selves initially…
of fungus and fungus never dies …even a trace left behind comes back to life in full bloom ….
that's why cancer is the fungus of human big bacteria… of what we all are
but atoms of energy and we can weigh about a hundred grammes ere the body is cremated
and we are made of all elements
Iron basically…zinc and gold and so on calcium...
in minuscule proportion as we are over 80percent water…
and so we are born as atomic form of energy
and as atoms explode …we hear cracks at cremations grounds…
now we use electrical energy… to dwarf all sounds
so as to let emotions to be concealed … within the mind …
now a remote invisible memory
and that's all now we see …after the funeral we come home
and
say ….
have a drink with me.
