Between Chaos and Clutter

Sometimes moving the furniture is the easiest part.

Between Chaos and Clutter

Chaos is one of the old world words
embracing nothing yet encompassing everything;
its ancient Greek form magically more powerful
than today's distilled, diluted usage.
In the old world, chaos confirmed vacant,
unfathomable space.

Fifteen years in one place creates
a tremendous cluster of clutter,
more than things to move.
Overloaded cardboard containers
stacked higher than my head threaten
to attack the floor with their disorganized
contents scattering disarray to be retrieved
at a time not yet known.

A toaster resides in its new location,
the cord dangling, disconnected.
All the elements of domestic tranquility,
toys, computers, crystal goblets, books
have yet to find a proper resting place.

The new house is currently cluttered.
The old house sits empty and vacant.
The drive home with nothing
but time and memories
is Chaos.

We tend to accumulate things and moving homes is the way to get them out of the way and to rethink our priorities from time to time. Good poem that resonates with all - siva
