This poem is about one of my favorite historical figures of the Old West. Her name is Mary Katherine Horony better known in most stories of the wild west as "Big Nose Kate."

She was born in an aristocratic family. Her parents died when she was in her early teens. not likeing her circumstances in foster care she ran away to Missouri to seek her fortune on her own.
Here's to You Mary Katherine!

Mary Katherine Horoney

She was one of those people
larger than life.
A sidekick out in Arizona.
She ran the gammit with
Doc Holliday,
This Mary Katherine Horony.

Rumor has it she was a business
Though the tails have never been
She ran with Doc cause he loved her
mind, her intellect said to match his.

She was there that fateful Tombstone day
though the shootout she may not have witnessed.
She was there by her man when he cried at the
bed after bloodshed and killing had ended.

She had many names, none We'd recognise
like Elder,Fisher, and Cummings.
Many occupations did include in her life
as baker,and boarding house owner.

She is better known as " Big Nose Kate"
a beauty she was not.
May her soul rest now in Yavapai county,
May she always be remembered with Doc.
