A poem from a party, celebrating the 80s and its musical culture!

The Birthday Party Inspires

A short time ago I was invited by my very good friend to her 40th birthday party. It was fancy-dress and everyone went to town. There were some excellent costumes including a particularly fetching 'Little Bo Peep' - adult version - and a seemingly authentic WW2 army uniform; there's definitely something about a unform .... The hostess wore green, setting off her red hair wonderfully. I was 'inspired' and wrote a poem hoping to catch some of the mood set by the costumes and the 80s oriented live music.

Figure-Hugging Green

Birthday girl in figure-hugging green,
red-haired, sexy siren,
slinking across the floor.
A sight for sore eyes too rarely seen.

Romancing to the New Romantics;
living in the 80s,
living on the ceiling;
drum machines and fancy guitar licks.

Embracing her newly found career
behind the microphone.
(Don't you want me baby?)
The object of every glance and leer.

Outshining even Little Bo Peep,
Swiss maidens in pigtails,
and uniforms galore,
with pressies stacked so high, wide and deep.

Hands up all those who danced and rocked and rolled!
Or drank and ate and chilled,
and stayed until the end.
Roll on when she is 41 years old!
