BITE AT SNAKE BIGHT

A tail was sticking from the water. It appeared to have an eye.

As my shrimp was sailing toward it, I didn’t wonder why.

I was at Snake Bight in Flamingo, looking for tailing reds.

Staked out in a channel, on the edge of a huge grass bed.

My shrimp landed quietly. Ten feet past him to the right.

It only took a couple turns to put it in his sight.

He bolted over quickly. I watched him suck it in.

I got into position, for the fight which would now begin.

I set up one time sharply, then two more just in case.

Then it looked like an invisible skier, as across the flat he raced.

The four pound line smoked off the spool, the rod bent near in two.

But I’d been here many a mornin’ and knew just what to do.

I let him run himself out, till I felt him as he slowed.

Then I snubbed the spool, and held the rod high and watched it as it bowed.

I finally got his head turned, and he circled to the right.

I smiled, very confident that I would win the fight.

But something came out of the channel and cruised up on the flat.

It pushed a three foot mound of water to where my fish was at.

They met with an explosion. As if someone dropped a truck.

The air was filled with foam and water and little chunks of muck.

Then it just cruised away slowly, there was nothing I could do.

Even though he had my line, he surely never knew.

He stripped my reel completely, and it popped off at the spool.

I stood there in amazement, feeling like a fool.

But then I started laughing. I mean I liked it in a way.

Because it sure brought some excitement to and otherwise peaceful day.

As I headed for the boat ramp, a smile filled my cheek

Because even though I headed home, I knew I’d be back next week!

Hey Guys,
Thank you for reading, sharing and following!
I am really just getting started at this, so you all are very important to me and my family.
Our life has really been changed since our accident. Thank you again!
I have a compilation of fishing related pieces in an eBook on amazon called “Fast Casts” for $2.99
It is also set uo as a “Share” file.
It was our first. I will be rereleasing a newer version as soon as I can with more pieces, on more sites and better format & editing.
I’d also love to work with artists and maybe even photographers to enhance things.
If you get it, please give a review and share.
It is a huge help to us!
And…It will help me write more!
I eventually want to provide audio files.
Thanks again!!!
Only the best,
Dan
